I wanted to get a replacement of the Diorshow mascara sample, and drugstore mascara was my primary choice. I was just being price-oriented and without thinking much, I got this L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes – Extra Black for €10 at Etos pharmacy in Netherlands. After all, I do have some confidence in L’Oreal mascara, not to say their discontinued Lancome Definicils mascara used to be my favorite.

The product label did not give much information, literally I could only recognize English word “Volume Million Lashes – Extra Black” on the product label. There were several versions of this mascara at the store but only “Extra Black” was having promotion at the time of purchase.

L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes claiming volumize and millionize lashes, inside the mascara tube it contains an excess wiper to remove excess mascara, thus no overload, no clumps.

The mascara wand is bendable and having soft bristles. I personally did not find any technically difference with unbendable wand for application.

This is non-waterproof, it can easily be removed by water. As circled in white in above attached picture (after removing the mascara by water),  you can see the mascara contains very fine shimmering particles. It normally “smudge-proof” since my eye area is quite drying however when skin became oilier it would smudged a little on the lower lashes. In fact, I would not purchase if I know it is non-waterproof beforehand because I felt more secure  with waterproof one.

(I did not use eyelash curler for the testing pictures)

Minimum lengthening and volumizing, slightly up-lifting, well seperating.

(before) In initial usage, the excess wiper seemed to be useless, the mascara still overload and created a clumpy look.

(after) After several usage, the mascara became more drying, no more clumpy

As I have naturally spare and short lashes, almost all mascaras able to enhance my eyelashes. I quite liked the “feathery” eyelashes  by this L’Oreal Volume Million Lashesn but ignored this mascara after a month because the mascara became rather drying. Looking for new mascara now.

Fards À Paupières (Eyeshadow) – 5 Colours Iridescent (#822-009, #959-042, #194-233) and Mini Crayon Eyeliner (#090 Black)

(From left to right) Crayon eyeliner, Eyeshadows (1,2,3), Diorshow mascara

The eyeshadows are creamy and glide on easily. I do need few heavy strokes to have visible pigmentation. I did not try many eyeshadows so obviously cannot justify, but I love how they looked on me. I had intense “makeup-look” with them, keeping my eyes more energized and sharp. They are quite long-wearing also, stay put whole day and non-drying.

The mini crayon eyeliner is soft and very pigmented on bare skin. However, the pigmentation looks ashy when drawn on the eyeshadows, please refer to the below attached picture for clear view. For that reason I actually prefer using gel eyeliner in this case. Moreover, it smudged a little bit when skin turned to be oily.

Diorshow Mascara (#090 Black)

I am not sure if the sample tube is identical with full-size version, it is rather drying. Overall it greatly disappointed me, a drugstore mascara works much better than it.

+ dried up quickly

+ smudge-proof (I used powder on eye area)

+ easy removal by cleansing oil

– minimum lengthening

– minimum curl up

– nothing dramatic (hence very “natural-looking”)

– bulky brush

Last but not least…

I saw this in oversea last year, somehow it only reached Thailand in early this year, selling at THB399/4.5mlx2 here. At that time, the banana-yellow in color, with collagen formula  Maybelline the Magnum Volum’Express was also on launching sales at cheaper price. Somehow, I’ve gotten enough painful eye-makeup removal experience. Regardless how dramatic the effect, how pretty the packaging, how much rave about any mascara, I’m completely immuned to any non-water-removing mascara.

That said, this black-pink Maybelline Long Extreme Double Stretch is water-removing. It can only be removed by warm water (higher than body temperature), so it actually never smudged nor flaked off undereye until I removed it with warm water. What a genius creation, it didn’t even dissolve in room temperature/mildly warm water. During the removal, I normally just pull off the fully soaked mascara coat effortless by using fingers, the mascara would never smudged, so no dirty undereye, great time-saving and no skin pulling, no cotton pad/bud needed. Sometimes I’ll get dropping lash, but I think that could be normal metabolism because I did that extra gently and I also saw a falling lash from time to time.

It has two ends, indicated 1 for base coat (white color wax), and 2 for top coat (black color wax). I don’t exactly know what the purpose of having the base coat but I guess it acts like a lash primer/conditioner which making the lash looks more dramatic.

Apply the 1 for base coat first, follow by 2 for top coat. Personally, I prefer to hold the brush vertically while applying the coat to create border lashes, then brush it horizontally again to separate the lashes (refer to below pictures).

Apply vertically

Apply horizontally

As the mascara wax is quite drying so I need to apply more strokes for visible coating but it would possibly end up clumpy lash if overdone. Both 1&2 coats dry out fairly quick though I found it stained my eyelid quite easily at the beginning in humid weather.  Overall, Maybelline Long Extreme creates smooth and soft finish, no remarkably volume, no sky-high curl (in fact it pull down the curled lashes!), purely modest lengthening. No smudge, easy removal.

Well-rounded feature is preferable by me, but because it does not flake like Clinique Lash Power, plus the budget-friendly price, it still deserves a good rating from me, meanwhile I was hoping more and more water-removing mascara on the market.

MEoW~  ...

I have never gone back to any Maybelline mascara these years until this “wild cat” came along. Love the sexy chic strips very much! Interestingly, I had been living with cat for more than 19 years in the past, yet I never noticed the cat has eyelash?? (She once secretly told me that her sexy eyes are inspired by eyeliner instead)

Hey~ Don't talk bad of me behind my back...

Hey~ Don't talk bad of me behind my back...

Maybelline claims the special V-shaped mascara brush to provide 5 times volume power to the lashes, curl up smoothly to 75 degree angle without clumpy. Sounds fantastic and I love to see the hyper-curl miracle happen.

I don't need eyelash to look adorable

I don't need eyelash to look adorable

This mascara actually joins few lashes into one bold lash, thus giving more dramatic voluminous effect. If applied 2 coatings (picked mascara twice), the eyelashes is very coarse looking and quite crunchy, thus I only picked the mascara once for both eyes. First few applications might not look nice due to the wet content, but the finish will look so much nicer then.

The Volum’ Express Cat Eyes Mascara is honestly build up the volume moderately, no lengthening but curl up nicely without help from eyelash curler, and the curl stands up entire day (Perhaps falls to 45 degree). When the mascara dry completely and the lashes become harder, I once curiously tried to pull the curl down by finger, the curl lashes bounce back in a second to its original U-curl position! Absolutely amaze of its disciplinary.

I do love the eye-awakening ability of Volum’ Express Cat Eyes Mascara, it saved my makeup time in the way that the mascara dry quickly. On the other hand, I must act fast to fix any problem before it gets dry. The small applicator coated every lashes including corner and lower lashes easily, and I could omit eyelash curler because my finger will do the job. Slowly, my love towards the Cat Eyes Mascara was building up over frequent usage.

This mascara will flakes a little bit under eye sometimes, but the little flakiness could easily remove by finger. Basically it never smudged easily during the 3 months use, EXCEPT I sit under the strong air-conditioned environment or inside a plane. When tested it on hand, for unknown reasons, the mascara stain neither water nor soybean oil resistant. For the removal part, it considers easy removable, a good makeup remover should not has any problem to remove it thoroughly. Personally I still preferred those whose can be remove by warm water.

Last but no least, of course I want well-rounded mascara which does decently on lengthening, volume, curl, well-seperating, oil and water resistant, softening and easy to remove…, unfortunately most of the mascara always lack one or two of those aspects, therefore, either combine at least two mascaras or just simply use a false lashes may seems more practical. Overall I think Volum’ Express Cat Eyes Mascara delivered as a drugstore mascara, just it lacks of lengthening ability and the natural velvet finish, but definitely curl up beautifully in my book. Paid 189 baht for this during promotion.

Clinique high impact mascara

I have 4g of the mascara sample as GWP of my Clinique haul. As per Clinique, High Impact mascara kicks up the volume and length of each and every lash for a look that’s lusher, plusher, bolder. Pure, deep colour only adds to the impact. Wear it once and you’ll feel naked without it.

Well, clapping hands for such a fascinating claim.

I admitted High impact mascara build up a pretty eyelashes that make it bolder, fairly lengthening, good curl and good volume. The eyelashes looked real and very natural indeed. As usual, I didn’t apply any other eye makeup for all my mascara reviews nor using any lash curler, but my left eye seemed has an eyeliner used, in fact that is an illusion created by the volumn of the mascara. Only thing is the bulky mascara brush is quite inconvenient to use and difficult to comb corner and lower lashes.

Clinique High Impact wand

High Impact delivers quite similar result like Shiseido The Makeup Lasting Lift does, except it isn’t waterpoof. For the removal part, this dissolved in a second with water without any residue, when tested with soybean oil, it smudged slightly, so the mascara absolutely not water-resistant but good oil-resistant. Thanks for the easy removal feature.

This is retails 750 baht for 8ml, has three shades, 01 black, 02 black brown and 03 Sapphie. I wish it can be better in lengthening, so most likely I will just stick to Maybelline cat eye mascara.

Clinique Lash Power

Clinique Lash Power made for Asian-eyes brush seeks out every last lash. Those already have dense, long eyelashes might not fond of this. I was having the 1.5ml sample as part of the Clinique’s GWP.

Direction to remove: Innovative thermal technology that helps it stay put for 24 hours is easy to remove. Use fingertips to splash warm water (bath temperature is ideal) on lashes several times and press gently. Or, wet a cotton pad with warm water, press to eye, then wipe away.

Frankly speaking, Lash Power Mascara impressed me lots! Firstly, the mascara brush combs and coats my every single lash effortless. I have not come across any mascara brush that do that (okay, I didn’t try enough). The tiny head of the brush really makes whole application quick and easy.

Second, it delivers the similar finish as my favorite Palgantong D Cup Mascara. Well lengthening, slightly eye opening curl at the beginning, no clumpy, look natural but minimal volume and doesn’t hold the curl after a while. The question is, who want a droopy gorgeous lashes? Anyhow, Lash Power seperates each lash beautifully, and dry out in 1-2 minutes. Hardly smudges, as Clinique said, a unique waterproof technology resists sweat, humidity, even tears. However, second coat after the mascara dries out will causes clumpy or flakes. Sometimes the mascara also flakes under eye but can remove the flakes easily.

Removing the mascara

Removing the mascara

Third, the mascara could be removing by warm water with zero smudge! Clinique claims it removes easily with warm water (I guess 30-32oC), as long as not cold water. I found it is very interesting that the mascara stain smudges when I tested on hand, but the mascara never smudge when I remove them from eyelashes. I normally use cleansing oil to remove sunblock and face makeup first, then use fingers to remove the mascara after the cleansing (since the lashes had been properly soaked by water, so it was extremely easy to remove by using fingers), double cleanse with facial cleanser finally. The best thing is I don’t have to pull or wipe my eye anymore that contribute fine lines forming. Additionally, the mascara flakes is very much alike the rubber eraser’s stain debris.

Fourth, the Lash Power reasonably costs 850 baht for 6ml in Thailand, not that expensive compare to Dior, Chanel, Lancome… etc. I can get it at cheaper price during promotion or oversea. It has two shades, black onyx and dark chocolate to choose from.

Last but not least, this is the mascara is very close to what I have been looking for, only wish it could has more volume, creates and hold uplift curl.

Shiseido TheMakeup lastinglift mascara

I got the Lasting Lift Mascara as GWP sometime ago, but I seldom aware of its exist. Although mascara should be discard after 3 months, it never applied to me. Lately I decided write a short review of this, not informative, just make an addition to the number of my product review. (“b)

Shiseido LastingLift brush

The mascara has short winding up hair wand that could easily comb every lash including the lower lash. Very waterproof, thus very difficult to remove them (most Japanese mascara are excel in this aspect), even a powerful cleansing oil need some efforts to remove it properly. First coating is quite enough to create non-clumpy, non-stiff eyelashes, if you want second coating, don’t wait until the mascara dries out, otherwise the second coating will causes clumpy.

As per the name ” Lasting Lift”, I suppose it will makes my lashes lift and curl adorably for whole day. Apparently it did medium lengthening, fairly volume and satisfiable lifting, but not to the extend that I’ll say WOW. It simply didn’t impress me since the first use. My picture above didn’t use any curler and other eye makeup by the way, but I love it imparted a look as if I have drawn eyeliner on.

Shiseido Lasting Lift

Overall a medicore quality that I can get from drugstore brand. Perhaps the quality of the samples changed over time, or my mascara skill need a big room to improve, but for me, save the money because L’Oreal Double Extension Mascara (the blue one) delivers the similar result.
