Bioré Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+ PA+++

Posted on: May 6, 2011

A new Biore Aqua Rich addition! Continuing the “Aqua Rich” concept, this new Watery Essence Water Base also formulated with Hyaluronic Acid and Mix Citrus Essence. Exclusive UV Aqua Jelly Capsule transforms the sunscreen into fresh watery liked texture when applying.

While this Water essence/base is sharing common ingredients with the other two Aqua Rich sunscreens (Water Mousse and Water Jelly), its sunscreen texture is in between the two sunscreen textures, like a Jelly- Mousse. It has dewy consistency of the Biore Water Jelly and mousse feature of the Biore Water Mousse, I love how the Water Essence feels on skin more than the other two!

This water-based sunscreen has pale yellowish colour. It leaves no white residue on skin, spread on easily, feeling hydrating, non-sticky, refreshing and slight cool sensation on skin. Please spare a short while to allow the sunscreen mattifying on skin, it imparts some shiny sheen when newly applied; once the sunscreen veil had been properly formed, apparently you could not tell there is sunscreen on, except the very subtle “glow”. Basically it has no coverage, my skin redness and freckles certainly need some makeup.

Bioré Aqua Rich Watery Essence is suitable for face and body, it can be served as glossy makeup base as well. I usually used it after serum and then brush on some powder foundation, surprisingly my combination-normal skin remained non-greasy (but slightly shiny face) in cozy room temperature for whole day! It certainly controls sebum better than the Water Jelly and Water Mousse. Nonetheless, if you are having breakout, you probably want to avoid using it. Very oily to combination skin will be disappointed of its shine-controlling ability, normal to dry skin will appreciate the soft, moisture and “glowing” skin.

It is not water resistant or  very sebum resistant but I recommend you to use a light makeup remover for proper cleansing. According to Biore, it can be re-applied after makeup yet not spoiling the makeup. I had tried this method once and did not convinced by the idea actually. You can refer to the below attached pictures, it indeed did not spoil the base makeup although it got to be carefully blended. For me, the re-application was too tedious and applying a SPF powder foundation would be much easier and convenient.

  1. Apply a pinkish BB cream on skin, wait until the BB cream dried up
  2. Apply Biore Aqua Rich Watery Essence onto the BB cream
  3. Blend carefully
  4. Wait until the hydrating veil of Biore Aqua Rich Watery Essence dries on skin
  5. After the sunscreen dried up, blend again to avoid patchy look, the coverage of the BB cream wore off slightly but the dry skin notably appeared more hydrated

Sad to say this hydrating watery essence  break me out a little if I using it together creamy BB cream, as such I would only use it  after applying light serum at home or use together with  drying powder makeup. In addition, it probably not ideal for acne-prone skin or  skin easily gets clogged with silicone derivatives.

Having sensitive skin, I still prefer physical sunscreen, or at least combination of both chemical and physical sunscreen ingredients. Eventhough this Biore Watery Essence does not contain chemical filter that I allergy to, but I could tell my sensitive skin is proned to redness more in the sun with chemical sunscreen.

I bought the Bioré Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+ PA+++ slightly cheaper for THB 359/50g during promotion. It was selling like hot cake here in launching months, thanks to the capricious warm humid weather that everyone dislikes using heavy sunscreen in this sunny + rainy + cloudy + humid season.

Rating:  .…)))    Good. Unlikely to buy again.
