Hotel Review: The Claridges Hotel & Resort, Surajkund Delhi

Posted on: April 13, 2011

First of all, Happy Songkran to those who are celebrating this festival.

Last month, I was trailing my SO to Delhi for his business trip and our stay with The Claridges Surajkund is totally pleasant and relax. The hotel is approximately 40-minute drive (depending on traffic) from Indira Gandhi International Airport. Located midst sylvan surroundings, The Claridges Surajkund is business hotel and luxury resort.

This is my first trip to India. As we had limited time, we had to miss the new 7 Wonder – Taj Mahal in Agra. Besides short sight-seeing in Delhi, I was really not exploring India though I was physically in India. Sigh.

The hotel offered a complimentary airport pick-up. We were warmly greeted by a smart-looking driver in white uniform at arrival hall and walked through a long way to the airport parking zone. There was nice we got two complimentary small mineral waters in the car, particularly after long queue at immigration and long wait for our baggage. Along the way to the hotel, there were several police check points (but we just passed by) and the driver horned a lot whenever it drove close to a vehicle, despite it was midnight and has very few vehicles on the road! The last security check point that we had seen was at the hotel main gate, our baggage need to be scanned through the scanning machine before proceeding to check-in counter.

Being a 5* hotel, the lobby of the hotel was classy and stylish. Our document was ready at the counter but the receptionist looked rather cold with no smile at all. After check-in, she led us to our hotel room and briefed us room amenities. As our baggage was with the bell boy, we got to wait 10 minutes or more in the hotel room for the baggage, together with requested iron and ironing board. I suppose we were the only guest check-in at that time? We were exhausted and just wanted to sleep asap.

The room TV offered few business news channels, movie, animal planet and local channels. The wakeup calls were always on time. The buffet breakfast at Oasis was below my expectation. I mean, the ambience, the presentation of food and service were great, but the food flavors can be improved. For example, the Danish breads (were these breads 5*hotel standard?!) and fruit juices (the watermelon juice was tasteless). I had three breakfasts at Oasis and noticed the varieties of choices were depended on guest traffic, as such, the more guest on the morning, more food varieties. I personally love their homemade jam and muesli, as well as the beautiful omelette.

Oasis provided both western and local dishes for buffet breakfast, however, the dinner buffet at Oasis was far more surprised. Although I love Indian food flavor in Malaysia & Singapore, but I didn’t get used to the authentic northern Indian taste of the buffet breakfast. The dinner buffet was catered more on international flavors, so the Indian foods were tasted really good, I couldn’t get enough of all of them!

Stay hydrated with hotel complimentary mineral waters.

7 pillow choices available for your comfort sleep.

My most favorite down feather pillow with 70% feathers and 30% down.

Generally, I was relaxed during my two-night stay with The Claridges Surajkund. Polite and friendly staffs, though lack of problem-solving skill. The concierge from hotel to airport was on our bill. As the traffic in the evening was messy and congested, I lost count on how many times the driver horned.
