Dr.Ci:Labo Aqua-Collage-Gel Super Sensitive

Posted on: October 13, 2010

Dr.Ci Labo is developed by Dr.Shirono Yoshinori from Japan. It  is a simplified skin care line that free of unnecessary harmful ingredient. Their star product- Aqua Collagen Gel is inspired in 1995 when his patients asked the dermatologist to suggest a truly gentle skin care product that can be used after their laser treatment. The Aqua Collagen Gel series said to be 5-in-1 product (1 = Toner+ Milky lotion + Beauty essence + Brightening Essence + Makeup base) with the skin care concept of “less is more”. Today, Dr.Shirono, both his skin clinics and skincare line has been expanded greatly and aid to create efficient and gentle product to all skin types with their skin care concept: Simple & Result & Science.

What I love most about Dr.Ci:Labo skincare is that their products included a lot of Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF) for ultimate HYDRATION. Instead of trying the ‘Super Moisture’ formula, I asked for ‘Super Sensitive’ samples. Why sample since it should be gentle enough for sensitive skin? I had tested it on my hand, well,  firstly the texture seemed to be difficult absorbed by skin that I might not prefer, and secondly my skin had shown a temporary redness.

The lightweight, silky, dewy, jelly consistency is a tad similar to Biotherm Aquasource Gel or Clinique Moisture Surge or SK-II Aqua Physics. It imparts refreshing and hydrating feel. In humid weather, it takes a while to fully sink into skin so skin will be quite sticky to touch and looks a tad shiny in the beginning.  If you are in rush, a matte day moisturizer or sunscreen or makeup could address the stickiness and shiny issues but remember not to rub the skin, else it pills. For drier skin condition, it soaks in relatively fast and leaves barely noticeable stickiness.

For irritated sensitive skin, it didn’t take off the redness immediately though it’s actually non-irritating and comfortably wearing. It provided adequate moisture and made the skin a comfort zone to encourage self-recovery. In my experience, calming and soothing creams didn’t cure as quick as doctor’s prescription when dealing with skin sensitivity, but they helped in slower pace. By using this Aqua-Collage-Gel Super Sensitive, meantime avoiding anything is drying (such as powder and mineral sunscreen), together with no exfoliation and deep cleansing, my sunburned-like redness subsided greatly in 24 hours.

For “fragile” skin after I had wrongly done an at-home-micro-dermabrasion (skin wasn’t stable enough to perform micro-dermabrasion), this is capable to calm and soothe. Most importantly, it didn’t sting.

For stable and healthy skin, especially when the oil glands were being very active in hot & humid weather, I might need to blot the excess shine after several hours. On the other hand, I would need extra amount or re-application to boost up the moisture in less humid weather.

Lastly, thanks to the generous samples given by the sales assistant, hence I could test it on various occasions. I actually preferred using it at night because the hydrated skin really saved a lot of face-work in next morning. At this moment I can only purchase it oversea as it’s not available in Thailand. Despite the cost and my skin is easily having blackheads with it, overall I am happy and would love to get one in future. It retails for SGD62/50g or SGD123/120g in Singapore.
