Beautyknot ~ My Skin Care Diary

Archive for October 2010

After 5 year staying far far away from hair colouring, I thought it was a time to change my hair colour. Liese by Kao Japan (  is something new for me, dying the hair like shampooing? I  decided to skip my favorite hair colour, Garnier.

Dark Chocolat is the darkest shade among 10 Liese shades and I always choose darker shade, hopefully it would be appearing more natural eventhough my DIY hair colouring is uneven.

As the application is different from other hair colouring products, I strongly suggest you to read the instruction carefully before use. Besides its original Japanese instruction, It also included manuals of English, Chinese and Malay since I bought it in Malaysia for ~USD12.

Items included in the box : Solution1, Solution2, Former cap, Gloves, Nourishing Hair Lotion, User manual, Allergy Test Panel.

It has Skin Allergy Test Procedure to check if you prone to allergic before using it. From the product instruction, it ideally to leave on the mixture for 48 hours but I tested it for 3 hours only. Still, (%\<~excuse¥*/+me&><;&£), the dye actually was unable to remove thoroughly after leave on for 3 hours! That was probably why Liese advised user to apply oily moisturizer onto skin for stain prevention. Anyhow, as long as I tissue off or rinse the dye in minute, I have no worries to have the almost-irremovable mark.  By the way, the mark of my hand faded off completely in a couple of days.

The chemical smell is very strong during the application but dissipated gradually and I think the smell is not very noticeable after hair wash. I thought the povided hair conditioner is too little for my long hair but realized later it is actually a leave-on conditioner. To keep my post short and simple, below attached pictures will show you some details of the process.

Additional points of ……

What I love:

+ easier to rinse off the dye

+ soft and non-drying hair after colouring

+ genuine colour as promised on packaging

+ pretty packaging & reasonably priced

What I dislike:

– It might be dripping 1~2 drops during 30 mins waiting time.

– it stung the hair scalp slightly.

– difficult to apply evenly on inner part of hair.

DHC Moisture Fruit Flavor Lip Balm comes with three flavours : Passion fruit, La France Pear and Berry&milk. Amid the three, La France Pear and Berry&milk have milder scent compared to Passion fruit. Each retails for THB420/10g which is expensive for a lip balm, I got it with 30% member discount in my birthday month.

It tastes more like berry fruit than milk. The texture feels very greasy on lips and looks a tad glowing in the beginning, hence a little bit of it is enough for moisturizing. However, depending on humidity of surrounded environment, the greasy lip balm would build up a non-greasy film gradually. Hence, do adjust the usage according to the degree of dryness.

It works as well as petroleum jelly, or I should say otherwise – petroleum jelly works as well as it? By the way, petroleum jelly is much thicker than this. Nevertheless, I must give my thumb up for its excellent moisturizing effect, despite it did not deliver “lineless lip”. I also use it on my wrist line and fine line under eye (night treatment) too, it always capable to moisturize that the lines appeared very less apparent, even after the moisture had been fully sank into skin or after drinking a glass of water. I use it on the back of my dry hands as well, it sets on quickly and leaves a non-sticky moisturizing film, allow my dry hands survived overnight in air-conditioning.

Avoiding sultry place because it would be melting at warm temperature but can return to solid form after storing it in refrigerator again. For that reason, this is inflexible when I wanted to bring this out for trip. Referring to below attached pictures, you will get what I mean.

Solid form

Melting form

Eventhough the texture has flip-flopped between solid and “liquid” soft, it still tastes fine after have been using for nearly three months now (thanks to the fragrance). However, in order to keep the quality of product freshness, frequent interchanging of the texture is certainly not a good thing, hence I do not think I will re-purchase since I live in tropical country. Those are using this in autumn/winter probably do not have this issue.

Rating: ….)))    Good. Unlikely to buy again.

Petrolatum, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Diisostearyl Malate, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis Jojoba Seed Oil, Beewax, Hydrogenated Castor Oil Dimer Dilinoleate, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Water, Butylene Glycol, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Fragrance, Polyglyceryl-2 Isostearate, Tocopherol, Honey, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Prunus Persica (Peach) Leaf Extract.

This is nothing new but I always hesitant to pay more for full size product, hence I was quite excited when I saw this travel size in Daiso (THB60/4pieces).

I was expecting it’s fragrance free but it has kind of unpleasant chemical smell, so does it release any harmful stuff to skin while rubbing the skin? I don’t know.

Direction for use:

  1. Use it on cleansed skin after washing your face or removing your makeup. It’s most effective if you use it during bath.
  2. Soak it in hot water of about 40 degrees Celsius for about two to three minutes.
  3. Put your finger into a moistened and softened cocoon and softly massage any areas you are concerned about, such as the nostrils.
  4. Proceed with your skin care routine after using this product.

According to the product packaging, each cocoon can be used three to five times. Do not store it in hot and humid location or expose it to direct sunlight.

Lets try.

After softened in hot water, the cocoon remained in its original shape but became slightly softer. I prefer using it on cleansed and dampen skin, only focus on nostril and inner cheeks that easily prone to blackheads.

Cocoon is made of 100% silk, rich in amino acids, you can have mild peeling effect of natural silk as it meant for removing dead skin cells and pore-clogging dirt. Think about using loofah for body exfoliation in shower. I used one cocoon for three consecutive nights, the skin seemed to be a little bit smoother that the pores were looked smaller, although those stubborn blackheads were still required manual squeezing. Sometimes I could feel the skin notably smoother right after scrubbing.

Overall I think cocoon for daily exfoliation is a gentler way (might be too mild) comparing to using facial scrub, particularly some facial scrubs contain gritty and edgy fruit particles that can be sharp to skin. However I don’t think this is something that can replace normal exfoliation or deep cleansing.

According to Dr.Ci:Labo, Aqua-In-Derm DN-Essence assists “penetration” and “effectiveness” to maximize cosmetic effects. “Ultrapure water”, the purest water possible, was chosen to bring out the best intrinsic effects of cosmetics. Unique “e-moment System” that facilitates smoothly ingredient penetration, together with In-Derm Force that temporarily looses the surface barrier by exfoliating dead cells and securing paths for penetration. This simple step enables your skin to feel more effects of skincare.

The clear essence is very lightweight, scentless, non-sticky, easily smoothes over the skin and absorbed by skin quickly. 2~3 squirts for face and neck.

It is the first step of your skin care, after cleansing and before toner/lotion. As I never relied on toner for skin cleansing/refreshing/exfoliating or took toner as astringent, this Aqua-In-Derm DN-Essence could be replacing toner in my skin care routine.

The following Testing A will show this DN-essence is a good hydration booster. Other hydrating product that contains  Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF) most probably would be having similar great effect as well.

~:~:~ Testing A~:~:~

(Sunny, hot ~35-37oC, low humidity <50%, room temperature)

Prepared the skin of one hand with this Aqua-In-Derm DN-Essence , then apply Dr.Ci:Labo Photo-White-C Whitening Lotion on the back of both hands, wait for 10 minutes.

(With DN-essence and PWC whitening lotion) – hydration has been maintained.

(With  PWC whitening lotion only) Skin was not capable to retain moisture.

The below Testing B will show you the DN-essence is helpful to enhance penetration of following skin care. Theoretically a moisture-balanced skin can be more receptive.

~:~:~ Testing B ~:~:~

(skin with DN-essence applied) The drop of Chanel essence is quickly sank in and dispersed within 3 minutes.

Wash my hand with soap, gently pat dry, then proceed with the following:

(bare skin) The Chanel essence is difficult to be absorbed by skin within 3 minutes.

To conclude above Testing A and B, in my view, if you have a good product (such as toner/lotion) which acts like hydration booster and able to enhance subsequent skin care penetration, then this Aqua-In-Derm DN-Essence might be nothing special to you. For me, this is very convenient to condition my naturally sensitive, easily dehydrated, combination skin for effective skin care, without causing any comedogenic problem.

As the packaging is vacuum sealed, there is a STAR-sign indicator at the back to remind you when is the right time to replenish stock. When the plastic indicator (shown in above”la la la” picture) started to appear, that means the remaining content will be enough for another 7~10 days usage, until the lower line of the plastic indicator reaches to the STAR level. You might have known how much I love this essence, I just got my second bottle. It is retailing at RM207/SGD90 for 50ml or RM375/SGD158 for 100ml.

Claiming 10 years of research, Aura-Inside™ Technology, a natural light creator. Intensely hydrates skin for 18 hours, leaving it instantly luscious and plumped. Minimises the appearance of uneven skin tone, for a unified and radiant complexion. SPF 15 for daily protection against ultra-violet rays. Day after day, this hydration reinforces Teint Miracle’s results: skin is smoothed, more able to reflect light and gains transparency to better reveal its inner light. Even after make-up removal.

Despite many cosmetic companies love the magic number “10years”, Lancome Teint Miracle did gain a lot of exposure of their marketing event. To join the hot wave, I also got my mini makeover done in October and received a tiny sample of Teint Miracle.

This is lightweight, easily spreadable and non-greasy. Although it said it hydrates skin for 18 hours but as you can see from the above attached pictures, my skin is very dry and the right side of skin with Teint Miracle looked dry as well, so do prime or condition your skin before putting on this liquid foundation. When I was in the mini makeover, the SA applied Blanc Expert whitening emulsion onto my cleansed skin followed by UV Expert makeup base with SPF50.

Before – Dab on Teint Miracle sheerly

After – Soft finish

It has sheer to medium coverage that the SA did use a concealer for my freckles in the mini makeover. My shade is BO-01 and it seemed to do a good job to neutralize my facial redness. The finish is pretty much alike with Palgantong Vita White BB Cream but much better in some aspects. It instantly brightens and evens up a dull skin, minimizes appearance of pores, imparts soft glow and it looks very natural like second skin. Moreover, this is long-wearing, except slight oily shine on T-zone after spending hours in hot sun, my complexion remains fresh without streaky trace, no touch-up needed but can just blotting the shine away with tissue. Frankly speaking, the foundation finish is nothing stand out compared to many many good foundations/BB creams on the market, however, I must give my thumb up to its long-wearing feature, especially in terribly hot and humid weather.

After skin excreted sebum, my T-zone shines and becomes greasy but still looking fresh

As I only test this out on and off, I cannot tell if it will really improve skin in long run as it claimed, though I doubt. So far, no irritation or breakout for me. Overall, this is impressive and best of all, it priced reasonably. THB1700/NT1600/RM130/SGD65/30ml in Asia.

I was intended to re-purchase Kate brow liner BR-3 initially but halted by the increased price (roughly 10% increased). So, as you can see, I got a cheaper replacement – Majolica Majorca Brow Customize. The white packaging of holder is a little bit boring but it is refillable and the refill is cheaper than buying a new Kate brow liner.

The refill (0.25g) and holder sold separately. You can choose between brow powder, brow customize super slim and brow customize sword cut, all can fit with the holder. Literally Sword cut is like the flat shape of sword as shown in below pictures.

The total usable length of the cartridge is 2.5cm.

From the below pictures, you might have noticed it didn’t show up much pigmentation on my hand, in fact I took several swatches to have the pigmentation on hand. Yet, it is easily pigmented on eyebrow.

I have never tried flat cartridge, surprisingly it is so easy to use. I have wide brow, hence the Sword cut cartridge is extremely helpful, I get my brows done in less than 10 seconds. The cartridge is soft and slightly waxy, using the brush for grooming after brow drawing would help to create more natural finish. The dark brown BR660 is also looking natural for my dark colour hair.

To avoid breakage, twist out the cartridge slightly for application. The cartridge head might leave wax stain on holder during application, do wipe off the stain with tissue after each application to keep the head clean. Good water-resistant, satisfiable sebum-resistant, unless you have very oily skin, otherwise the brow shape stays put for whole day.

Despite the price, I found Majolica Majorca is widely accessible compared to Kate, thus easier to replenish stock. It costed me approximately USD10 for both refill and holder, I am still happy with it after using it for nearly 2 months.

This post is going to be short because it is an additional note of my previous post that shared about full reviews of Kate Eyebrow Pencil BK-1 and BR-2. Hence I will show you more about its shade in this post.

BR-3 is darker than BR-2, alike dark brown. I always love dark brown because it looks natural than black/grey. The strength of applying does affect the pigmentation. Light-handed if you like soft pigmentation.
