This Renew Rosehip Oil is 100% organic certified and it comes complimentary in 15ml with a promotion bundle, including a Renew Antioxidant Moisturizing Cream. The normal retail size of this Renew Rosehip Oil is 25ml.

According to Renew, it contains no less than 80% essential fatty acids necessary for protecting cell membranes, skin healing Vitamin E, beta-carotene and powerful anti-aging antioxidant lycopene. It is effective in the treatment of: scars, acne, uneven skin tone, fine lines, wrinkles, ageing skin and skin cell repair.

Renew uses the rose hips from the wild rose- Rosa Eglanteria that grows in South America. Without learning detail about Rose hip oil, I don’t really know what to expect. Hereby I did some simple online reading and come out with following benefits of the Rose hip oil.

Rosa Eglanteria and rose hip

Above attached two images are taken from

Directions: Massage 3-4drops into clean, damp skin twice daily or when required. Follow with Renew Antioxidant Moisturizing Cream.

Generally Rose hip oil is fruit oil extracted from the hip or fruit of the rose. The hip is the round tomato-red fruit that occurs on rose bushes anytime from late Summer to Autumn.  Rose hip oil is known to be rich in vitamin A and C, Lycopene, Beta-carotene, fatty acids Omega 3,6,9. It does not need to be diluted with carrier oil, suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin, for all ages, light and easy absorb into skin and non-comedogenic. Furthermore it helps to prevent the signs of premature ageing, minimize uneven skin tone, cell regeneration and repair damaged skin tissue. (source)

Before I got to know what Rose hip oil is, I simply assumed it has queenly scent of rose, a scent which always a good selling secret behind many fragrances. The fact is that rose essential oil can smell totally different with  rosehip oil. Natural rosehip oil can smell funny to me, it smells like dried flower normally but I’m regretted it smells like unpleasant fishy to me sometimes and that made me feel stressful,  though most of the time the smell dissipated in few minutes.

Put aside the scent issue. The dark yellow oil of the Rose hip oil is lightweight and easily absorbed into skin, perhaps slightly greasy for oilier skin but personally I don’t find it greasy at all. Due to very sensitive skin, my body lotion always 24hr moisture and soothing one, this is a good “whitening” additive without purchase a separate whitening body lotion to improve uneven skin tone after being in sun. I mixed few drops of it with the body lotion prior to application and they worked very well to keep the skin moist, supple and non-greasy (hopefully it does help the lightening). The strong fragrance of body lotion has covered the Rosehip oil scent to great extent so I don’t have to bother my body smells weird.

I had a small bleeding scratch by my nail during a facial cleansing, which I had mentioned this unfortunate incident here. As Rose hip oil is known for improving appearance of scar, I began to apply the oil directly on the wound on the second day, twice a day for a week. This Rose hip oil is very gentle and never stung the wound, the wound-cut sealed and smooth-touching within 2~3 days. The scar didn’t fade off totally but I’ve hard time to look for the scar in the mirror (“c) Wow!). Later I used the oil on and off, when I checked back the scar after a month, it was gone without leaving a trace. That was excitingly impressive and I was more willing to use it regularly since then.

Note: The pictures were taken under different lightings. Yellow’s were taken under dim light, Bright/Pinkish skin tone’s were taken with sunlight. The lightings didn’t affect the visibly of the scar.

Besides the friendly dropper, dark-shaded for light-protective  and lightweight glass bottle, I still have one big issue with the packaging. The cap cannot be screwed up tightly once opened. I packed it inside my makeup bag and carried along to airplane, half of the content was gone wastefully because of the spillage. On the return trip, I made sure it was properly wrapped and sealed, surely I didn’t want to see an empty bottle when I arrived home.

Store a natural product below 30oC and use it up within 6 months once opened. I stored it inside fridge all the times and Yes! The colour and the …… smell still maintained after 2 months (if not the spillage, it should last longer). Rose hip oil, also called “Oil of the Youth” is indeed a very useful oil as long as I get used with the smell. In fact, its skin care benefits deserve the Excellent-rating, I drop the rating because of its smell and packaging.

Rating: ….)))     Good. Willing to buy again.

I believe a gentle and effective skin care is not necessary natural & organic, meantime I also concern of any potential harmful and skin-irritating ingredients in skin care. Personally I think natural skin care is feeling-good and healthy approach but many non 100% natural products have been working well for me too.

Beside face oil, this Renew Antioxidant Moisturizing Cream is my first genuine natural moisturizer. According to Renew, it contains essential oils to nourish and revive, natural emollients to protect and soften, and antioxidants to lock in moisture. Perfect for all skin types.

I absolutely love its non-heavy texture and the powdery smooth feeling when it had fully dried on skin. It neither contributes blackhead nor causes breakout when using an appropriate amount. I used the cream when I had few small hormonal pimples and it didn’t exacerbate my hormonal breakout that they subsided by themselves in few days. Even so, I would suggest you to avoid using this cream on the breakout area because it would “ripen” any newly-developed acne, possibly delay the healing process.

I was surprised it wasn’t moisturizing enough for dry skin condition, eventhough it contained many nourishing botanic oils. When I re-applied the cream before bedtime for extra moisture, it broke me out on next day. According to Renew, instead of applying heavily, it should be incorporated with their Rose hip oil for dry skin. Of course, I got to try the method and it worked most of the times, not everytime. I guess my skin needs some balancing between water and oil.

Interestingly, it neither calms nor soothes the irritated skin condition but it’s also non-irritating and comfortable to wear for irritated sensitive skin. I had tried this for consecutive two days when my sensitive skin was “capricious”, the sensitized skin still felt uncomfortable and I’ve seen no visible improvement in two days, compared to Dr.CiLabo’s Aqua Collagen Gel Super Sensitive and Keihls Cantella Skin Recovery Salve that capable to calm down the “irascible” yet vulnerable skin in a day.

To be honest, I didn’t notice remarkably skin improvement in the interim but, it’s indeed pleasant to use. For my skin, this is perfect for day wear or in humid weather, its natural scent smells relaxing too. Concerning about irritated or dry skin, I would rather go for another specific product for effective soothing. It lasts for 4 months usage by using twice a day, RM79.90/120ml is a fairly good price considering the natural ingredient list.

Despite countless beauty new releases, I just stick to my long-planned Beauty Wish List (You know what are them now). Those new releases are very tempting but gratefully, I have loss my interest in them after reading their full ingredient lists, mainly because of my sensitive skin.

Anyway, keep my fingers crossed in next few months for my new haul as they cost me a lot…

I don’t use mineral spa water everyday, in fact I hope I would never need it. The moment I need Spa water, meaning that I’ve to deal with a skin problem. A travel-size mineral spa water could be necessary in case I don’t know when I would need it.

I’ve talked about my use of mineral spa water in my previous posts, today I’ll share a new way of using mineral spa water for hand care.

First of all, I’ve dry hand. Although I prefer extra nourishing hand cream but I also love lightweight hand cream for quick powdery finish. The issue is that sometimes the lightweight hand cream just wasn’t capable to keep the hand moisturized for long hours.

Here is what I use the Uriage spa water for.

Hand cream used for following illustration is Boots Hand and Nail Cream (Tomato & Tangerine)

Skin is very dry, almost flaky.

Skin had been moisturized after applied the hand cream

After an hour, skin texture started showing the dryness signs again

Spray generous Uriage Spa Water on skin, then apply the hand cream

After an hour, skin texture had only shown minimum dryness

As you can see clearly, damp skin is certainly retained moisture better than dry skin. The point is, a travel-size mineral spa water is a great salve whenever you need an instant relief with mineral-rich soothing water, provided there is no clean water around you. I found this method particularly helpful when I was too busy to go to washroom  during office hours or during car traveling. If I’m at home, I can simply go to sink and rinse my hand under tap water for few seconds before applying hand cream. That worked as well. You can apply the concept to your skin care routine too. (“v)

I got few samples of Uriage Extra-rich Cleanser with 12ml each, it claims to be soap free and a high tolerance formula that suitable for sensitive skin of face and body. It contains various surfactants including notorious Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS), you might want to take note if you concern about potential side effect of SLS.

c<**> Testing <**>b

Shimmering lipstick and waterproof mascara

Massage the foam onto makeup for ~15 seconds, rinse off and pat dry

As you can see from above simple testing, it was too mild for makeup removal, those glittery particles were still fairly visible. However, it’s not a makeup remover, then it should be enough for normal facial cleansing.

I tried it for both face and body skin in humid & hot weather, apparently it cleansed the skin well without dryness, skin felt refreshing and clean. For body cleansing, it foamed up easily with a loofah or sponge,  left a smooth sheen film on skin which I felt nothing after dabbing dry the skin.

This is mildly-scented liquid-gel

Add a little water for lathering. It foams up easily.

Besides it relatively gentle that can be used for face cleansing, I found it pretty average like most other shower gels on the market.

Aqua (Water), Uriage Thermal Spring Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, PEG-80 Glyceryl Cocoate, Sodium Chloride, Glycerin, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Sodium Laureth-8 Sulfate, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Parfum (Fragrance), Coco-Glucoside, Glyceryl Oleate, Sodium Oleth Sulfate, Magnesium Laureth Sulfate, Magnesium Laureth-8 Sulfate, Citric Acid, DMDM Hydantoin, Magnesium Oleth Sulfate.

According to Kiehl’s, this Epidermal Re-Texturizing treatment is an advanced formulation that has a highly effective abrading quality on skin’s surface. The formula affords an immediate skin-smoothing effect and with regular use, helps to visibly minimize discolorations and small marks on face, hands, and décolleté. Over time, the look of facial lines is reduced and skin texture is significantly smoother and clearer, while the appearance of pore size is diminished. As skin is re-texturized, the formula helps to facilitate the absorption of topical skin treatments. There are two skin-sloughing main ingredients: Micronized Shells (“Diatomaceous Earth” in scientifically, a skin-polishing silica) and Micro-dermabrasion Crystals (an ingredient used by dermatologist to perform micro-dermabrasion procedures). Besides, a blend of Willow Herb and nurturing sea algaenates further helps to soothe skin.

Directions: Dispense a nickel-sized amount of the product into the palm of the hand. Ultilizing fingertips, gently apply to clean, damp skin in an upward and outward circular motion (it never foamed up), avoiding the eye area. Continue treatment for approximately 30 seconds but no more than two minutes, to achieve desired effect. Rinse with cool water and gently pat dry.

As per Kiehl’s, you may increase pressure slightly to enhance treatment results (I do that on thicker skin area). Some redness is expected as skin is re-texturized (When it had been done properly, the redness is only temporary, normally less than few hours). Do not use on irritated or damaged skin (I suggest not to use if you have unhealed acne/bumps, it might irritate and cause more acne/bumps). It can be used for body areas such as hands, elbows, back and décolleté (It could be coarse for thinner skin such as  hand). Avoid excessive sun exposure after micro-dermabraision and protect the skin with sunscreen of SPF15 or greater (I suggest mineral sunscreen). Do not use more than three times per week (You should judge this based on your own skin type and condition).

I have tried to capture the small gritty particles in the below picture and I hope you get the idea of them. No kidding, it made me think of sand paper. I have no problem to increase slightly pressure on T-zone but the more delicate U-zone felt relatively intolerable to the gritty scrubbing, I could only sweeping the gritty particles extra gently on the U-zone for 1~2 times. However, when environment humidity is fairly high during rainy season, my sensitive could tolerate the scrubbing more, both T-zone and U-zone.

After using it more than five months, I would say my skin is immediate smoother right after the treatment, provided the skin is rough and is at healthy & stable stage. In other words, it tends to irritate “weak” skin (such as inflamed skin, after being in the sun,  poor-resistant skin due to not enough rest or climate factor…etc) instead of exfoliate. Did the smoother skin make any difference compared to normal facial scrub? YES!! Please let me explain further.

I had a tiring trip and I had not done any kind of exfoliation for about two weeks, the skin was slightly rough to touch especially on oily T-zone. Before I returned home, I spent three days at my sister house and I was eager to exfoliate my skin. I tried my sister’s Biore scrub trice but never satisfied, it made my skin texture nothing different in my view. As soon as I reached home, I used this at-home-dermabrasion and this “polisher” surprised me with a remarkably smooth-touching skin, plus a refined skin texture. That was amazing that my aging pores could look slightly smaller through an effective exfoliation.

Meantime, I only use it approximately every 10 days instead of using every week like common practice. 10-day is my own calculation that ideally minimizes the risk of getting skin sensitivity. I admit the skin might become rather rough at the end of the week, but the time frame allows my sensitive skin builds up thicker to avoid any regretful irritation. If I think the skin is not “thick” enough to perform the micro-dermabrasion, I would go for gentler Kiehl’s Papaya Enzyme Scrub.  So far the routine works great for my skin.

At this moment, I love this more than any other scrub, though it is coarser but it also more effective. Do not expect it can rid off those stubborn blackheads, I was still relying on manual squeezing to remove stubborn blackheads. Additionally, it did not cause flaky skin or dryness, a big bonus point. The 75ml is long-lasting too, I do not think I need more than one tube in a year. This is retailing at THB2300/75ml in Thailand, I bought it oversea with much more cheaper price.

Rating: ….)))    Excellent. Willing to buy again.

Aqua/Water, Alumina, Paraffinum Liquidum/Mineral Oil, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Butyrospermum Parkii/Shea Butter, PEG-100 Stearate, Stearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Solum Diatomeae/Diatomaceous Earth, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Epilobium Angustifolium/Epilobium Angustifolium Extract, Disodium EDTA, Hydrolyzed Algin.

For the past two years, I stuck with Fancl HTC Collagen which made of three important amino acids (glycine, proline and hydroxyproline). Since Fancl had withdrawn their business from Thailand, I had no intention to continue with any collagen supplement. Moreover, I read from magazines before that only approximately 3% of collagen supplement can reach to our skin, thus limited strange to achieve beautiful skin. However, to get the concept right, collagen supplement is benefit for overall body well-being, not just for skin.

I grabbed two packets of this during a promotion. DHC collagen contains 150 tablets (400g/tablet) for one month supply and recommended 5 tablets per day. I took it together with Coenzyme Q10 supplement in the morning, after having breakfast. The yellowish tablets are small enough that can be swallowed at one time (plus the Q10 capsule), very faint fishy smell (it derived from fish) but might be a little bit bitter.

Let me put the thing in more readable way:

Feb 2008 – Jan 2010 : Fancl HTC Collagen

Feb 2010 : No taking any collagen supplement

Mar 2010 – Apr 2010 : DHC Collagen

May 2010 – now : No taking any collagen supplement

I just wanted to share there is indeed a difference that I’ve noticed in between the transition period. My nail grew much faster than usual when I took collagen supplement everyday, either Fancl’s or DHC’s. While consuming the collagen supplements, I must trimmed my nail weekly else it’s too long for my liking. After I stopped taking collagen supplements, notably my nail grows slower that I only want to cut the nail averaging every 1.5 week. Meantime, I also noticed my hair grew slightly faster during the collagen-taking period.

Other than these, I didn’t notice any other improvement. However based on the differences, collagen supplement is not something useless in my opinion but it highly depends on the extraction and concentration to determine its benefit.

One of my good friends who was taking Collagen drink everyday in recent years, her skin wasn’t perfect and acne-free “yet”, so obviously you cannot rely on supplement only to fight against aging. After all, most supplements only work while you are taking them.

This DHC collagen  (THB570/150tablets) is one of the Best Seller of DHC TH, honestly I’m very curious about the actual sellable reason. Perhaps those have tried continuously more than 6~12 months can give me an answer.

Ingredients (5tablets):

Fish Collagen  1750mg

Vitamin B1      1.45mg

Vitamin B2     1.5 mg
