Laneige Sensitive Mild Skin Refiner is Alcohol-free, Fragrance-free, Color-free and Oil-free. Besides the main ingredients of Laneige Sensitive Mild Complex – Portulaca extract for soothing, Phytosan to restore damaged DNA, SC-glucan boosts the skin immunity; it also contains minerals and amino acids to strengthen skin barrier. According to Laneige, Sensitive Mild Complex reduces the impacts of external damage from environment and internal impact from stress by enriching skin nerve cells and skin structure.

This Sensitive Mild Skin Refiner is a toner or lotion that suitable for sensitive skin. Use before Sensitive Mild Emulsion and follow by Sensitive Mild Essence in Laneige Sensitive Mild series. Many Laneige skin care uses glass packaging, good to keep at home, poor to travel along. If you purchase them online, those heavy-weighted glass packaging will add up you shipping cost unfairly.

Due to the air pressure in the bottle, the clear watery content is extremely hard to pour out from the heavy bottle in the beginning and I can’t squeeze the glass bottle. When it had been used 10~20%, the pouring became easy then. It gives refreshing sensation and does a very good job on hydrating. Although it contains no artificial fragrance but it has mild florally scent which is pleasant.

The amount used for lotion mask

Comparing to other toners, I used this up very fast within two months. First, the watery content absorbed by cotton pad too well that I need more amount than usual (using hand will save more). However, I minimized the waste by using it for blackhead-squeezing as showed in below attached pictures. Secondly, I used 30% of the lotion for several lotion mask trials. For lotion mask (<10minutes), I regret to say it gave discomfort pungent or mild burning feeling though I had spritzed Vichy spa water prior to applying lotion mask. I think the reason of irritation is because I stored it in fridge, which is too cold for my sensitive skin to handle. I tried again (stored it under room temperature) on different days without the Vichy spa water, this time no discomfort feeling but still a mild pungent sensation within 10 minutes. Sigh, what was went wrong with this Sensitive Mild Skin Refiner? It was actually very soothing for normal toning, eventhough after finished my at-home-micro-dermabrasion. Nevertheless, I also tried it together with commercial mask sheet, it didn’t cause irritation too, so I concluded this is fine for normal toning just not for lotion mask purpose. For your information, my skin is quite balanced and hardly prone to sensitivity during that period.

… How to minimize the waste …

After toning, split the used-cotton-pad to few pieces, then wrap the point-finger with the cotton pad.

Now you can start squeezing those stubborn blackheads without hurting the skin, meanwhile the hydrating lotion residue helps to soothe the skin.

After finishing the skin refiner, the glass bottle can be a stylish vase.

As a whole, I think this is nice for all skin types, especially your skin need intense hydrating. I paid RM88/130ml for this in Malaysia. Re-purchase? May be.

Rating: ….)))    Good. Unlikely to buy again.

For me, as long as the products capable to moisturize, then the hair manageability will definitely be improved. Thanks to the Kiehl’s assistant who kindly gave me samples of Amino Acid Conditioner and Heat-Protective Silk Straightening Cream, I guess he must be agreed in his mind that my hair looked dry and frizzy. HaHa.

Before sharing my review of Heat-Protective Silk Straightening Cream, here I’d like to share my sampling experience of Kiehl’s Amino Acid Conditioner.

Amino Acid Conditioner

content of the conditioner

As per Kiehl’s, the silicone-free Kiehl’s Amino Acid Conditioner imparts a healthy-looking shine to hair without weighing it down and helps maintain hair’s natural moisture balance. This is my first experience with silicone-free conditioner and I think it’s lovely! It has coconut smell and light texture. While most drugstore siliconed conditioners impart slippery-smooth and feathery-light feeling during hair rinsing, this Amino Acid Conditioner imparts feeling of abundant moisture and full resiliency. Furthermore, I usually need more hair rinsing for siliconed conditioner, this Kiehl’s makes the job much easier. Hair is moisturizing and extremely soft touching, though slightly frizzy. (“b)nnß

Heat-Protective Silk Straightening Cream

content of the Straightening Cream

According to Kiehl’s, Heat-Protective Silk Straightening Cream is created especially for wavy, frizzy or curly hair in need of smoothing, contains a blend of natural ingredients to help straighten out hair and tame frizz without weighing hair down. Humidity is locked out and hair is protected from over drying and breakage.

Direction for use: apply evenly to damp hair, from scalp to ends, keeping most of the product at the ends. Blow-dry evenly with a brush to straighten out hair. Apply on dry hair for control and shine.

It has kind of herb scent with a hint of menthol, quite refreshing and the fragrance doesn’t linger on hair by the way. The cream texture is moisturizing, light weighted and best of all, non-greasy. Frankly speaking, I’ve no idea why it called straightening.

**++ Testing ++**

The night before – applied the Heat-Protective Silk Straightening Cream onto damp hair then blow-dry. I didn’t try to blow it straight, just brushing it with fingers. The hair was incredibly soft!

Next morning – Dry hair

Next morning – After applied with Heat-Protective Silk Straightening Cream, hair appeared more moisturizing and less frizzy

No straightening but the hair volume, hair waves and the softness were well-retained, hair is easier to manage and style as I wanted. It’s best to apply on day and night for optimal result. As a whole, çnn(d”) I LÖVË it!

I would never get enough of beauty accessory. I normally dress up in very simple way but love to wear accessories to bring out some chic and elegant details. Last few weeks I was sourcing some fabrics for embroidery and I bought some cute and adorable cheap accessories too, they are just ideal for casual wear.

Hand made ear rings - 1

 THB5 (~USD0.16) each.

Hand made ear rings - 2

Close view

These are very lightweight. THB10 (~USD0.32) each.

THB20-30 (~USD0.65-0.95) each.

THB50 (~USD1.60) each.

Hand made bracelets

THB100 (~USD3.20)  for 3 pieces.

A set included a pair of ear ring and a necklace

 THB150 (~USD4.80) per set.

…… and many more, which are much pricier for formal occasion. As I have sensitive skin, I do not really wear them and would not wear them on continuously basis. That said, if I wear one on Sunday, I would not wear any on next couple of days. They are just too cute and cheap that I could not resist getting them. (“b)

As a heavy hand cream user, a budget alternative is LOVLovLovely. If you are not so concerning about ingredients and only ask for decent hand cream for moisturizing, these Boots Hand & Nail Creams are worth to consider. There are many choices of budget hand creams available in Boots (TH) pharmacy, these are the cheapest among them.

Jasmine & Jasmine Rice for moisturizing & calming, smells like Thai coconut ice cream, yummy! Green Tea & Soybean for revitalising & rejuvenating, smells florally pleasant.  Tomato & Tangerine for moisturizing & brightening, smells like sweet bubble-chewing-gum, a little bit cloying over use.

From left to right:  Jasmine & Jasmine Rice, Green Tea & Soybean, Tomato & Tangerine

Amid the three, Jasmine & Jasmine Rice is the most moisturizing one compared to the other two. Green Tea & Soybean and  Tomato & Tangerine are more lightweight and they are not exactly sufficient for very dry hand. Besides, Jasmine & Jasmine Rice contain sunscreen Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate; where Green Tea & Soybean   and Tomato & Tangerine contain Benzophenone-4 as sunscreen. From my personal experience, my skin is more tolerant with Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate. I prefer to put them for day use, not only because they contain UV absorber and I love their powdery-smooth finish, but their budget cost is indeed very attractive, especially I wash my hand with soap frequently.

In term of their non-greasy texture and lovely fragrance, they are compatible with premium brand in my opinion. Concerning about efficacy, they are capable to moisturize but lack of intensive treatment effect. I didn’t notice much until I used them on my feet. I recently have minor cracked heel that resulting from wearing sandal frequently. I soaked my feet in warm water to soften, applied Jasmine & Jasmine Rice hand cream generously to moisturize, covered feet with cotton socks for overnight care, but I saw minimal improvement in two days. I always believe hand cream can be a foot cream simply because I saw a good result with some hand creams before, and they are not necessary a premium one. Later I tried again to prime the targeted area with treatment oil, then seal by the hand cream again…. It worked!

I have been using them for nearly five months now, love the Jasmine & Jasmine Rice most and I had finished it in just two months. They retail for THB100/100ml each, usually go under different promotion campaign and I bought mine THB199/100mlx3. In case of emergency, it can be treated as body cream without breaking your heart at such a friendly cost, I had done so in few circumstances. All in all, I would love to keep the Jasmine & Jasmine Rice for its extra moisturizing factor.

Rating: ….)))    Good. Willing to buy again.

Anti-aging plus sunscreen, this is one of those very few high SPF day cream on the local market. Whether you are concerning about darkening or photo-aging, high SPF is becoming prevalent nowadays. Having a sensitive skin, I prefer separating anti-aging and sunscreen in skincare routine.

The sunscreen formula of this day cream includes Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Tinosorb S (Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine) and 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor. This is my first experience with Tinosorb, but as long as the formula does not include Avobenzone and Benzophenone,  I am feeling safer as my skin normally will not feel 100% comfortable with these two ingredients.

Left: Bare ; Right: Protox Day Cream on

I used this together with Rojukiss Protox serum. The cream is moisturizing, slightly thick but I did not feel the heaviness on skin. It did temporarily leave slight white residue and impart radiant glow that I think it would be suitable as makeup base too. Non-greasy touch and no waiting time required that it allows immediate base makeup application right after the cream. The whole application is pleasant and I did not sense any irritation during the sampling either. The overall application reminded me of Japan Mandom Beauty Baby Moist UV base. When skin is oilier, the finish is pretty alike as though I applied Clarins UV Plus HP Day Sunscreen.

This small sample is sufficient for four days only but except I cannot tell if it is comedogenic, all in all I feel this is comfortable wearing and suitable for no heavy-sweating wear because it is neither very water nor sweat resistant. The discounted retail prices are THB1450/30ml and THB195/3ml in major pharmacies over here.

Update @ 13 Jun 2011: I got a full size (30ml) complementary of this with purchase, so I can test it for longer period. Sadly, it did not work well for my sensitive skin that the skin turned to be very red after minor indirect sun exposure. With the skin reaction, I affirm my believe that chemical based sunscreen is totally out of my wish list in future.

Water, Dimethicone, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Hexyl Laurate, Zinc Oxide, Silica, Titanium Dioxide, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1Dimethicone, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor, Cetyl Ethythexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Chloride, Beewax, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Quaternium-18 Bentonite, Dimethicone/Methicone Copolymer, Aluminum Hydroxide, Triethoxycaprylysilane, Tocopherol Acetate, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Sea Water, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Fragrance, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Methylparaben, Chlorphenesin, Strearic Acid, Lutta Cylindrica Fruit Extract, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract, Diospyros Kaki Leaf Extract, Cinnamomum Cassia Bark Extract, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Oligopeptide-1, Copper Tripeptide-1, Hydrolyzed Conalbumin, Artemisia Princeps Leaf Extract, Chryrsanthellum Indicum Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Disodium EDTA, Propylparaben, Morus Alba Bark Extract, Morus Alba Fruit Extract, Morus Alba Twig Extract, Morus Alba Leaf Extract, Magnesium Stearate, Citric Acid, Adenosine.

By the time I am writing this post, the Rojukiss Protox series had been expanded from three products to a complete range. I had this night cream in a small sample size from the purchase of Protox serum. It was enough for four applications, thus basically I would be able to share about its moisturizing factor here only, although I think its anti-aging looked fairly impressive.

The content has hint of yellow colour, it is gel-cream textured, slightly thick but non-heavy as I only used small amount. It is moisturizing and easily smoothed over the skin, skin is smooth touching, non-greasy and feeling comfortable.

Try it after toning, it was not sufficient for moisturizing in air-conditioning that my dry lines appeared within very short while. What I did is, applied face oil over it to address the dryness.  I have also tried using it together with the Rojukiss Protox serum, it worked much better with no dryness issue. In general, the moisturizing result would be nice if my sensitive skin is well-balanced prior to applying it.

So far I was feeling fine with this in humid summer but I could not tell if it works as well when my skin becomes very sensitive. In addition, I do not recommend this to acne-prone or comedogenic-prone skin due to its silicone texture. The discounted retail prices of it are THB1450/30ml and THB195/3ml in major pharmacies, 7-11 store and here.

Water, Squalane, Butylene Glycol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Dimethicone, Phenyl Trimethicone, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, C14-22 Alcohols, C12-20 Alkyl Glucoside, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Cyclomethicone, Glycerin, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Arachidyl Alcohol, Behenyl Alcohol, Arachidyl Glucoside, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Polysorbate 20, Retinyl Palmitate, Cholesterol, Rosa Canina Seed Extract, Polyisobutene, Polyacrytate-13, Allantion, Panthenol, Adenosine, Xanthan Gum, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Collagen, Amino acids, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Oligopeptide-1, Copper Tripeptide-1, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Conalbumin, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben.

According to Rojukiss Anti-wrinkle 3 solutions, the Protox series is a highly concentrated medical skin care that specially developed for three types of visible wrinkle, the deep, wide and long wrinkles. Their latest innovation of Advanced Peptides includes three Protox Peptide complexes:

  • Hyaluronic Booster Peptide effectively fills in deep wrinkle
  • Pro Collagen Peptide strengthens damaged skin structure
  • Botox-like Peptide works as if Botox to relax long wrinkle

The main ingredient Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8) mimics the action of Botulinum toxin (Botox) to relax and paralyze the facial muscles. At the time of writing, there are no reliable safety data of Argireline, however it seems to be safe enough that used widely in most anti-aging care with adequate concentration.

I used this Protox serum together with Kiehl’s 10.5% Vitamin C for about two weeks in the beginning. Later I read that Vitamin C can be oxidized with over-loaded zinc or copper in skin (source). Although I wasn’t certain if the concentration of Copper Tripeptide-1 in this Protox serum is influential but I definitely didn’t want to risk pro-aging, thus stopped using them together anymore.

The liquid-gel consistency is a tad viscous, very runny while spreading over the skin, I normally take a drop of the serum (approx half dropper amount) for entire face and neck. With or without toning prior to applying this serum, it just sinks in rapidly and leaves the skin sticky touch. Once it fully absorbed, skin is matte-looking with minor/no stickiness and I could feel temporary skin tightness while moving the face muscles (such as smiling). Pores are refined because of the hydration.

Beside, the floral fragrance of this serum is quite strong in the beginning but fade off to mild scent after some time, though I wish it’s fragrance free.

A "drop" of the serum

It’s able to smooth away the expression lines temporary like what a moisturizing eye cream or wrinkle-filler does.  It won’t diminish the lines but it temporary “freezes” them a little bit by using it consistently. The effect is temporary yet addictable, eventhough I would still need an effective eye cream to moisturize the dry patch, else the lines “pop up” again because of dryness.

As you can see from my picture, I’ve used up two bottles by the time you read this post. Meantime those expression lines under eyes still exist after using it for approximately five months. To summarize, I noticed the mild botox-liked-effect under eyes only (an effective wrinkle-filler and eye cream will impart similar effect), no abnormal side effect had been noticed and I didn’t see the skin and line remarkably improved either. That probably means, it might help dynamic fine line only. I don’t think it affects the skin deep, the lines gradually revert to previous stage since I stopped using it.

Generally it’s gentle for sensitive skin, it caused no irritation, no comedogenic and no breakout issues. This Rojukiss Protox Serum retails for THB2290/30ml (Promotional THB1990) and THB1370/15ml (Promotional THB1190) in major local pharmacies, supermarkets and sample size is available in 7-11 store too. It’s pricey to maintain because it usually lasts for only 2~3 months (depending how much you use) twice a day. As it contains my favorite ingredients and is very gentle, so Yes to re-purchase.

Rating: ….)))    Excellent. Willing to buy again.
