Boots Botanics Moisturizing Oil Cleanser

Posted on: April 28, 2010

Most of the makeup is very water-resistant, even a soap or facial cleanser cannot remove them properly. While I always use finger/hand for sunscreen and makeup applications, which is very important to get my hands clean prior to every other step. Though I use Boots Botanics oil cleanser mostly for body sunscreen removal but it’s functioning as a hand washer (to remove cosmetic/sunscreen residue) and an effective makeup puff cleanser too.

— How I clean my makeup puff —

 Dirty puff…

Took 3~5 squirts of the oil cleanser onto it…

Squeeze, and squeeze…

Added water to emulsify, rinsed off with water… as clean as new.

Wash again with facial cleanser/mild soap to remove any residue of imcomplete emulsifying, just in case…Then leave the puff air dry.

Boots Botanics oil cleanser is one of the best valued cleansing oil that I have encountered in Thailand, particularly I got this THB150 during “Buy1 Free1” promotion. There are three versions of Boots Botanics oil cleansers- Moisturizing, Renewing and Balancing. Looking at the product title, this Moisturizing version seems to be the thickest one. Yes, I am wrong. This is lightest instead.

Basically all Boots Botanics oil cleansers are fragranced, both mineral oil and plant oil based, together with some surfactants. This Moisturizing version contains an oil-soluble Vitamin C derivative (Ascorbyl Palmitate), perhaps act as an antioxidant, either to the plant oils or skin, however I do not expect it has any brightening effect here. The plastic bottle is slight pinkish but the oil is watery clear in fact.

For the scent, this smells pleasantly nice  like rose water. For cleansing, this considered efficient. It leaves non-greasy smooth feeling and non-drying after cleansing. For eye makeup, this is best to avoid because the watery oil consistency tends to get into eye and causes irritation. When I tried to dissolve the mascara at very first time, I managed to keep the oil not slipped into eye since the eyelid was flipping down half way during the removal, so it didn’t sting the eye, but I supposed it would be irritating if get into eye.

— Cleansing Test —

(Shimmering lipstick & Waterproof mascara)

Leaves the makeup for 10 minutes.

Using fingers to massage the oil onto the makeup for 10 seconds, lipstick dissolved quickly, but not the mascara.

Add a little water for emulsifying.

Rinsed with water and patted dry. A minor glitter-particles and mascara leftover. Added a little oil again to remove the residue completely.

 Conclusion

Required extra effort for heavy waterproof mascara. Second cleansing with facial cleanser needed to ensure thorough cleansing if wearing heavy makeup.

Generally I would say Renewing version is suitable for dry skin, Balancing version for oily skin and Moisturizing version for normal skin. But after second cleansing, none of them makes any difference.

Rating: … )))    Excellent. Willing to buy again.

Haha I’d never thought of using this as sponge cleanser! :))

Hmm I’ve got the same bottle, but wondering how come yours looks pinkish… mine is clear white..

Haha, are you sure yours is same with mine? The oil is clear but the bottle is pinkish.

I have been doing the puff cleansing for more than a year now. I believe whatever left on our makeup puff are exactly can be found on our face at the end of the day, so if cleansing oil is powerful enough to remove the dirt and makeup, it would do the same to makeup puff and it cleanses so well. Lucky point is, it seemed not doing any damage to my makeup puff so far.

Thank you for commenting Nellz (“v)

Hi vaidyanath,
Malaysia has no Boots pharmacy. Moreover, I have totally no idea about the oil that you mentioned, you need to provide the name of the oil then only other people can help.
Thanks.
