Beautyknot ~ My Skin Care Diary

Archive for February 2010

I was editing my product review pictures at an internet center and the terrible incident happen… my picture folder disappeared permanently by suddenly restart of the PC itself and no way to retrieve back……

Therefore, all my pictures for Clarins Shaping Facial Treatment, Korea masks, Japanese masks, new DHC suncut series, L’Occitane Apple almond fluid…etc, had gone forever and I can’t retake those pictures, especially their content. So, I got to re-scheduled many posts and sorry for any review without pictures in April. (My heart was still bleeding)

Back up your pictures at the first place…

Containing Pitera® with N-acetyl Glucosamine (NAG), Niacinamide and Microglycan. SK-II Signs Wrinkle Serum works on the length and depth of wrinkles to help plump up wrinkles so they become less noticeable. It reduces the appearance of wrinkle growth by instant moisturization, then pushes up and plumps up wrinkles from the surface layers of the skin, so the existing creases of wrinkles become gradually less visible. According to SK-II.

For me, this is rather hydrating serum for mature skin than anti-aging serum. Perhaps, cosmetic companies understand our need, that usually lack of patience for the long-term promised effect. Hence, moisturization is the key factor for instant yet temporary less apparent wrinkle. I don’t have wrinkle yet, but the principal works for my fine lines and aging pores too.

This has gel-like texture and it settles on skin almost instantly, leaving skin smooth to touch. From my past experience with gel-type product, they delivered the best on damp skin (normally after cleansing and toning). Depend on the lotion type I used, I realized refreshing lotion is  much better than a moisturizing lotion (vicious consistency) for optimal result that my skin texture could tell the difference instantly. If this serum didn’t absorb well, it would just appears like a film sitting on top of the skin at the beginning, but seems to work after a while.

When I used this prior milky sunsceen application, I think it did a good job to keep the skin moisture without tightness in a sunny and windy weather. Partly because I didn’t use any powder too, thus reduce the possibility of dehydration.  But, having said that, this is an excellent hydration care to me.

Overall I’m satisfied with Signs Wrinkle Serum for hydrating, not my ideal anti-aging serum. Besides, it’s pricey. If I remember the price correctly, it’s THB4400/30g.

“…… skin is recharged from within, so whatever your age, you can always look younger. “

Skin power, according to SK-II global principal scientist, Misa Ito, is the skin’s natural ability to withstand internal and external stress and maintain its texture, radiance and firmness. It is clinically proven to look up to 4 years younger in just one month, giving skin total beauty through a balance of firmness, smoothness and radiance.

SK-II Skin Signature is proudly introduced by SK-II in 2009. Contains Oli-Vityl from an olive species that thrives in Tuscany, Italy. Skin Signature is also to replace the previous version, Sign Treatment Totality.

I was overwhelming when I spotted a tiny sample (HKD18/2.5g) of this at Bonjour HK store. Skin Signature is retailing at THB4990/80g here, pricey or not, I certainly didn’t want to spend so much on something that lack of genuine reviews.

Being an anti-aging cream for early mature skin, I’m quite surprise the texture of the cream is very dewy and lightweight, yet very moisturizing. It penetrates into skin rapidly, non-greasy and leaving skin smooth and subtle glowing.

Generally it was sufficient for my combination skin, although it wasn’t in very low  humidity environment that my skin felt tightness within 3 hours. In the circumstances, I would just use it together with serum or face oil. Apply thickly would also help, probably that is why it comes in a big tub.

It didn’t cause me breakout in 5 days sampling time. In fact, if applied it alone after liquid lotion, I was happy that less blackheads and less oily skin in the next morning. As a whole, I think this moisturizer is more suitable to oilier skin or those dislike oiliness, dry skin may need additonal care for extra moisture boosting.

Despite I never understand the detailed bio-chemistry action in the skin deep, I believe the natural skin power is powered by overall inner health (the main reason of why I take supplement), as well as healthy lifestyle and diet. Antioxidant such as Q10 is good enough to me. Still, Skin Signature is very pleasant to use, especially it’s fragrance free.

Caudalie, pronounced as kô-da-lee, is a measurement of quality that quantifies the duration of a wine’s flavor on the palette. For each second the flavor remains this is a caudalie. The finer a wine the more caudalies it will have.

Caudalie Paris is a natural brand enriched with Polyphenols from grape seeds, Resveratrol from grapevine stalks, and Viniferine from grapevine sap. The brand promotes free of parabens, phenoxyethanol, mineral oil, animal ingredients, sodium laureth sulfate and artificial coloring. According to Caudalie, this Hand & Nail Cream is highly concentrated in patented anti-oxidant grape-seed polyphenols, moisturizing and strengthening Vinolevure, fair trade shea butter, nourishing grape-seed oil, avocado, plant glycerine and sweet orange.

Caudalie line is solely distributed by Sasa in most Asia countries. Although I found their facial skin care products have beautiful consistency with look-good ingredient list, but I only grabbed this hand & nail cream MYR68/75ml at the end.  After many wrong purchases in the past , I was afraid to get another unsuitable product again.

Normally I’ll opt for rich and thick texture for extreme moisturizing care. Out of expectation, this hand cream is feeling so nice on hands. Comparing to those thick and rich textured hand cream that I only reserved for night care, I was addicted to this “light-taste” hand cream.

The hand cream is pleasant mild fruity citrus scented. The texture is lightweight yet creamy, leaving no greasy film on skin. It almost absorbed into skin instantly. Other than the silky touch I didn’t even sense any hand cream applied on.  The “nude” feeling is absolutely suitable for day use, especially those dislike greasy hands. At night, I used liberal amount for extra nourishment as I slept in air-conditioned room. That would be tiny sticky touch-feeling initialy when applied thickly but the stickiness would transformed into baby-smooth feeling in few minutes later.

Excluding cooking and bathing, I wash my hands very frequently everyday. The hand could be easily getting very dry and form the hard nail cuticle faster. What I totally adored this Caudalie hand & nail cream is it truly nourished despite the light texture. Having said that, of course using liberal amount is the key point. It soften the rough spots and hard cuticles (including the heel), refined the skin texture overnight!  However, I didn’t notice any change to my nail, may be my nails didn’t have any issue at the first place. Still, this is quality one.

Ignoring the price tag, I love to carry this around. This is the bulkiest skin care item that I brought to airplane or anywhere. Really enjoy the delightful fruity scent, though the scent faded off in a short while. I was thinking to get Jurlique hand cream (rose) for night care and reserve this for day use and travel because Jurlique’s is my favorite too, and it was much creamy for better moisturizing. I just finished the first tube of this hand & nail cream in 2 months, definitely will re-purchase.

Rating: ….)))      Excellent. Willing to buy again.

With its smooth, light texture, this face cream is suitable for all skin types, especially dull and tired skins. It illuminates the complexion, stimulates the blood micro-circulation, and protect against daily oxidizing skin aggressions (light, pollution, smoke…). Skin natural radiance and balance are restored. L’Occitane says.

I received few sample packs of this Olive cream many months ago, finally I got the mood to try it out. I’m not sure whether this if this Radiance Moisturizing Cream is going to be slowly faded out as L’Occitane had launched their Organic Olive Oil series quite a while back. Anyhow, I love benefit of olive very much, but it may be potentially comedogenic as it’s heavy/nourishing oil, especially when it’s going to stay on skin for long hours. May be olive oil of cosmetic-grade is totally different with food-grade, because eventually it worked out very fine on my combination skin during the few days sampling.

The light cream smoothed on easily and it has mild pleasant scent. A little bit greasy right after application, but once it’s fully absorbed, skin felt smooth, soft and moisturized instead. I used quite generous amount for each application, it just enough for moisturizing in air-conditioned room, meanwhile it didn’t give me breakout as well.

With only few samples, I couldn’t verdict its promise of radiance skin in just few days since my skin was also well-behaved during the short period, so basically no obvious dullness issue. For skin care, apart well-balanced and moisturized skin can lead to glowing skin from within, I believe if the active antioxidant ingredients of the cream are still fresh and potent, then radiance skin is never a dream.

Ingredients:

Aqua/Water, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Glycerin, Neopentyl Glycol Diethylhexanoate, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Isononyl Isononaoate, Arachidyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Myristyl Alcohol, Myristyl Glucoside, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Decyl Oleate, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Extract, Behenyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Polyacrylamide, Phenoxyethanol, Arachidyl Glucoside, Cera Alba/Beewax, Tocopherol, C13-14 Isoparaffin, CI77891/Titanium Dioxide, Parfum/Fragrance, Xanthan Gum, Laureth-7, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Limonene, Linalool, Eugenol, Coumarin, Benzyl Benzoate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional.

According to Lancôme, this gentle cleanser lathers quickly, gently washes off dead skin cells charged with melanin and cleanses the pores easily. The exclusive NeuroWhite System helps to enhance the skin’s transparency and radiance. Wash off with tepid water. Suitable for sensitive skin.

The milky consistency foams up easily with small amount required, leaving skin very smooth to touch right after cleansing. Skin felt no tightness yet the skin texture appeared slightly drying sometimes. When my skin turned to be oilier, this is moisturizing. This probably a most moisturizing whitening facial cleanser that I have tried so far.

The floral scent is very nice and we know pleasant smell appeared to affect emotion, I just love to use this AM and PM. I finished the 30ml sample size in nearly 2 months. Despite the lovely texture and moisturizing factor, I couldn’t tell if any “whitening” good thing happen though it claimed gently remove dead skin cells. But judging the blackheads removal, it wasn’t effective to purify. Anyhow, I didn’t have all these expectations since I used grape seed oil for purification, so I am not disappointed actually.

This never has strong cleansing power to remove makeup, but it has no problem to remove the minimal shimmer-residues, just in case there is shimmer-residue leftover after makeup removal. I tested and it did the trick. Moreover I couldn’t say this is very gentle as it contains few skin irritants although I also didn’t notice any irritation from using this frequently. Overall, I am happy with Blanc Expert Neurowhite Ultimate Whitening Purifying Foam. It is retailing at THB 1700/125ml in Thailand, certainly pricey but it is something that easily falls in love with.

Shimmering lipstick and waterproof mascara

Message the foam on makeup for 15 seconds, the makeup still has roughly 80% leftover.

Christian Dior certainly takes the cosmetic division seriously. Capture Totale is transcendent anti-aging collection by Parfums Christian Dior, incorporating Dior’s exclusive science technology for more beautiful skin. I’m interested in their skin care, meanwhile I also concern they are way complicated for my sensitive skin, hence sample is really a good option here.

According to Dior, Capture Totale Multi-Perfection Eye Treatment intensely corrects all visible signs of aging and helps recreate the deep radiance of a visibly younger skin. It targets those have shown first sign of aging for intensive anti-aging eye treatment.

The texture is lovely. It’s somewhere between fluid and cream, so I’ll call it emulsion like. Yet, feeling rich and absorbs quickly by skin with finger patting method. The moisturizing film isn’t greasy at all which eye makeup can clings easily over it. Fragrance is florally but unnoticeable most of the time. Still, I prefer non-fragranced eye care.

My eye contours were well moisturized, perhaps in perfect way. All I need was only a rice size amount and patting with a light finger for few seconds to get the light cream settled. Loving the superior moisturizing effect, I could simply omit an eye cream afterward or no necessary to re-apply like my other eye creams. Nevertheless, in very drying winter month, sadly the reapplication still required.

As I only used sample size for nearly a week, I couldn’t tell if it improved any aging signs, though moisturizing factor was always my priority. By having proper moisturized eye area, my fine lines at least became less visible immediately upon laughing, and that actually persisted for whole day. No irritation, no warming/burning sensation, a comfortable eye care experience instead. Really, I was highly satisfied.

Nevertheless, I don’t think it reduced puffiness. For me, if there was no improvement on eye puffiness in few days, then it wouldn’t be in long term. Mine is more on aging sign. According to expert, none of the eye cream could get rid of it and only can be eliminated by plastic surgery. However, I can still hoping an anti-aging care will eventually tighten the eye contour a little bit, subsequently reduces the puffiness. Most importantly, delay (or prevent?) the wrinkle forming.

Capture Totale Multi-Perfection Eye Treatment claimed it helps with the radiance of eye area. Apparently I didn’t notice that at all, most probably I don’t have visible dark eye circles. However, my pictures below may show you it actually does help a little bit. Any eye care that contains mica can impart such minor effect. You may think the shimmer was due to the moisturizing film, but that was because my limited photography skill couldn’t captured the detail, in reality the peraly-shimmer was visible under dim light.

Finger patting the eye treatment on skin

The moisturizing film (circled) settled for about 10 minutes. Comparing to bare skin, there were subtle shimmers in fact.

Lastly, amongst all eye care I’ve tried so far, this has one of the lightest consistency, smallest amount to be needed for each application and delivered highly satisfiable moisturizing effect. It completely changed my narrow perception that thicker texture will give better moisturization. I truly impressed and enjoyed each application very much. Only the ingredient list keep me hesitated. I’ve few eye cream samples on hand now, in case I don’t meet my ideal one after enough try, I’ll purchase this one (THB3150/15ml).
