Beautyknot ~ My Skin Care Diary

Archive for March 2009

I was received these samples in March 2009 Olive Club Magazine Mailing. Tested the sample once, but the first encountering was really surprisingly nice, no taut feeling, no irritation yet hydrating, totally a new definition of acne care series to me.  I have occasional breakout, sensitive and easily dehydrated skin, DHC claims the series suitable for all skin types, but I found it was not really enough for my dry patch. The correct sequence of using is face wash, face toner, follow by face milk, then face essence if you need extra moisture. Obviously, my aging pores look smaller within few hours with the series, I was impressed!

Salicylic Face Wash (590 baht, 120ml )

The liquid-gel consistency very lightweight, has mint/herbal kind of mild scent and creates foam easily. Face feels refreshed, non-drying yet hydrating. Very nice that I feel wanted to purchase it in full size. In fact, I already bought one to stock up, will do a more detailed review in separate post.

Active ingredients: Salicylic Acid 2%

Inactive ingredients:

Water, TEA-Cocoate, Arginine Cocoate, Cocamide DEA, Potassium Cocoate, PEG/PPG-240/60 Copolymer, Salicylic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Glycerin, Triethanolamine, Sodium Laureth-4 Carboxylate, Rosemary Oil, Butylene Glycol, Potassium Hydroxide, Etidronic Acid, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Allantoin, Aloe Extract, Green Tea Extract, Royal Jelly Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Perilla Extract, Houttuynia Extract.

Salicylic Face Toner (600 baht, 160ml )

The clear liquid is very gentle and non-drying on my sensitive skin, slightly tacky when it dry but I’m fine with it as toner. Not sure if it’s scentless, but I didn’t notice any. Can’t further comment because I only tried once.

Active ingredients: Salicylic Acid 2%.

Inactive ingredients:

Water, Butylene Glycol, Salicylic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Citrate,Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Rosmarinus Officinalis (rosemary) Leaf Oil, Aloe Ferox Leaf Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Royal Jelly Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Perilla Ocymoides Leaf Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract.

Salicylic Face Milk (620 baht, 60ml )

The lightweight opaque fluid goes on smoothly, absorbs quickly, comfortable and hydrating. Has mild mint/herbal kind of smell as well. This lightweight moisturizer acts like a moisturizer to strengthen the skin barrier against damage.

Active ingredients: Salicylic Acid 2%.

Inactive ingredients:

Water, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Sorbitan Stearate, Salicylic Acid, PPG-12/SMDI Copolymer, Cyclopentasiloxane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glyceryl Stearate, Triethanolamine, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polyquaternium-37, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Phenoxyethanol, Sucrose Cocoate, Ceteareth-20, Grape Seed Oil, PPG-1 Trideceth-6, Dimethicone, Rosemary Leaf Oil, Panthenol, Green Tea Extract, Royal Jelly Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Perilla Herb Extract, Houttuynia Extract, Soy Extract.

Salicylic Face Essence (480 baht, 15g )

This is emulsion type of essence for targeted acne. It’s so emollient that I thought it is a face lotion. At first I thought it was scentless, but there was a sour smell lingering around me after I have done the face wash, toner, milk and essence. To find out the real culprit, I tested those residues on my hand separately. May be all contributed to the form of smell but I finally concluded the essence has exactly the sour kind of smell strongly after it dry out. Too bad, definitely won’t consider the essence for the offensive odor.

Active ingredients: Salicylic Acid 2%.

Inactive ingredients:

Water, Butylene Glycol, Isononyl Isononanoate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sorbitan Stearate, Sulfur, Ceteareth-20, Sucrose Cocoate, Phenoxyethanol, Xanthan Gum, Salicylic Acid, Tocopherol, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Allantoin, Disodium EDTA, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Aloe Ferox Leaf Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Royal Jelly Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Perilla Ocymoides Leaf Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract.

If you have acne issue and love DHC, prefer lightweight, non-drying, gentle yet affordable priced acne treatment, you may give the series a try. For the effectiveness, to be honest, as I understand Salicylic acid only effective under PH3.0-4.0 where DHC Salicylic acid series claims skin pH that gentle to skin. For that reason, I afraid it won’t be much effective for acne therapy. I tried the series in hot and humid summer, so I think the series is only suitable to oily acne skin. Anyway, I bought the face wash simply because I was enjoys using it.

DHC Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Mask aims to fight against aging, dullness and dryness. Fragrance-free, 21ml generous content loads the sheet mask with plenty lightweight gel type essence. Again, the cutting of DHC mask is too large to fit well on my face, but the sheet mask is sturdy adheres on face and could be gently stretchable.

After 20 minutes application, there are still plenty essence left on mask sheet, so I use it on my neck as well. The remaining essence in the sheet pack can also be applied on face and body thickly or several layers in order to finish the essence.

The result is not fantastic as I expected, indeed, I was greatly disappointed since it was highly raved in Japan yet many reviews stated they have luminous face after the mask. Perhaps I already have fair skin, and seldom suffer from dullness now, so I couldn’t tell there is any different before and after. Pores and fine lines did not seem to be refined instantly despite I do feel slightly moisturizing, not to mention the anti-aging effect is hardly justifies by few usages. Personally think the Utena Lamuca mask does better than this mask in hydrating aspect and shows instant plump up result after application.

This is more for anti-aging treat than any other treatments. The anti-aging Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Mask contains 5 sheets in a box, 21ml essence per sheet. Retail at 730 baht in Thailand.

Rating: …))) so-so So so. Will not buy again.

The mask doesn't fit exactly

The mask doesn't fit exactly

According to DHC Taiwan,

Platinum able to lock in skin moisture while enhancing skin self-defense function while Silver is an anti-bacteria agent that used by NASA of US as a preservative of drinking water, to enhance skin immune system, boosts blood circulation and skin metabolism, and prevents skin degradation. DHC claims neither their platinum nor silver will cause allergy because they use high purity of platinum and DHC Silver (SV1000) which is different with normal jewelry silver. However, I still urged you to try sample or do a patch test before purchase a full size if you are interested on them.

DHC Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Anti-aging series targets young women that were concerning of aging, and DHC suggests the series for all skin types.

DHC Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Lotion

The lotion is watery, refreshing, silky smooth, absorbs quickly, slightly tacky when it dried. The lotion also contains fine glitter micro-particles. However it caused redness and dryness for my sensitive skin due to the alcohol content or any other reason. DHC listed ingredient list in Japanese language that I can’t read, and I only found out the ingredient list from their website later, my big mistake!

I had done an experiment to verdict this lotion. First I cleanse my hands, apply the Platinum Silver Nanocolloid lotion on left hand only, then I apply a drop of Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Milky Essence on both hands where my right hand was patted dry after cleansing. In a minute, the milky essence on left hand sunk into skin about 50% while  the milky essence on my right hand (without the lotion) only visibly sunk in about 10%. I know this is not an accurate verdict but apparently the lotion did prove itself to help the skin to be more receptive.

The Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Lotion is selling at 990 baht for 120ml. I stopped using it after two weeks because of its high level content of alcohol.

Rating : … ))) good Good. Will not buy again.

Ingredients: Water, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, PEG-50 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polysorbate 80, Sodium Citrate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Citric Acid, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Phytosteryl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Disodium EDTA, Dequalinium Chloride, Angelica Acutiloba Root Extract, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Eriobotrya Japonica Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Perilla Ocymoides Leaf Extract, Morus Alba Root Extract, Cellulose Gum, Sodium Bicarbonate, Platinum Powder, Silver

Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Milky Essence

The consistency of the milky essence is liquid-gel and little tacky to touch. It penetrates into skin easily since I paired it with Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Lotion. It contains minimum glitter micro-particles as well as the lotion but hardly noticeable.

No matter how lightly the texture, the milky essence broke me out! I tried 3 times in different period, it broke me out within two days and they subside whenever I stopped using it. I only the serum only on dry patch and neck, it works fine then. This might keep moisture slightly longer but nothing to rave about.

The Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Milky Essence is selling at 1190 baht for 80ml.

Rating : … ))) so-so So so. Will not buy again.

Ingredients: Water/eau, Diproplylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Squalane, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Beheneth-30, Cetyl Alcohol, Carbomer, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, Algin, Ehtylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Tocopherol, Angelica Acutiloba Root Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Eriobotrya Japonica Leaf Extract, Perilla Ocymoides Leaf Extract, Morus Alba Root Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Sodium Bicarbonate, Polysorbate 80, Cellulose Gum, Platinum powder, Silver

Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Cream

I actually like this most amidst DHC Platinum Silver Series. This is a lightweight gel-cream but moisture well. It absorbs into skin fast, leaving skin smooth and shine free. Even in air-conditioned environment, the Platinum Silver Nanocolloid Cream kept my combination skin comfort and moist. When I woke up in next morning, my fine lines in dry patch seem plumped up, but T-zone was oily as usual.

As I only test the sample once at night together with Platinum Silver Toner and Platinum Silver Milky Essence, so I was not sure if this causes acne, but look at the ingredient list, there is a potential. The Platinum Silver Nanocolloid cream is selling at 1090 baht for 45g.

Ingredients: Water/eau, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, PEG-400, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Mineral Oil, Carbomer, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Squalane, Phenoxyethanol, Dipentaerythrityl Hexahydroxystearate/hexastearate/hexarosinate, Behenyl Alcohol, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Sodium Hydroxide, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Sclerotium Gum, Kassou ekisu, Cholesteryl Stearate, Tocopherol, Angelica Acutiloba Root Extract, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Eriobotrya Japonica Leaf Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Perilla Ocymoides Leaf Extract, Morus Alba Root Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Cellulose Gum, Polysorbate 80, Sodium Bicarbonate, Platinum Powder, Silver

Overall the product consistency of Platinum Silver Series is pretty nice for young skin, or anyone who prefer light weighted texture. Nevertheless, I was not excited using them after two weeks. Tried them on my legs then, my legs look much smoother than before. The product performs, just not for my complicated face skin.

Olive is well-known of its vitamin riches and antioxidant power to protect skin damage from photo-aging. I received Olive Leaf sample gift while registered as DHC Olive Club member in my DHC haul. As told by the beauty consultant, this is an anti-aging series for all types of skin. The sample gift set includes Olive soap, Olive Leaf Lotion, Olive Leaf Milk and Deep Cleansing Oil.

Olive Soap

I was doubtful of the value when I get to know the 90g Olive soap sells 850 baht in Thailand. The soap creates generous lathers easily, leaves my skin squeaky clean after wash. It also fragrance-free, gentle on sensitive and dry complexions. When use as body soap, it’s non-drying like normal soap though still required body lotion after bath.

Water, Sucrose, Olea Europaea (olive) Fruit Oil, Lauric acid, Myristic Acid, Stearic Acid, Glycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Olea europaea (olive) Leaf Extract, Palmitic Acid, Behenic Acid, Tetrasodium Etidronate

Olive Leaf Lotion

The lotion is liquidity and really moisturizing, leaving my skin silky smooth to touch.

Water, Butylene Glycol, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Sodium PCA, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Trehalose, Serine, Methylparaben, Placental Protein, Citric Acid, Allantoin, Sodium Citrate

Olive Leaf Milk

This is thicky milk texure, feel alike yogurt. Skin feel emoilient upon application. Not enough for very dry skin in cool season but surely sufficient for dry-oily skin in hot season.

Water, Butylene Glycol, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Stearic Acid, Squalane, Lanolin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Placental Protein, Behenyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Phenoxyethanol, PEG-10 Soy Stearol, Tocopherol, Carbomer, Potassium Hydroxide, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, Retinyl Palmitate, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Tricalcium Phosphate, Silica, Acetyl Tyrosine, Paeonia Suffruticosa Root Extract, Zinc Oxide, Silver, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract

The ingredient of Olive Leaf series look pretty good to me, besides it’s fragrance-free, minimal preservatives, it is also combining both nourishing and potent antioxidant ingredients for effective anti-aging care.  However, from the reviews of MakeupAlly, many are suffer breakout from this series. If look at its ingredient list, the olive leaf series compacted with high content of nourishing ingredients like Olive oil, Squalane and Lanolin, these are potentially comdogenic. Thus I strongly recommend it for dry skin people only.

Based on my past experiences, I could foresee my skin will suffer clog pores or breakout if I continue to use the series for a period. The price range for the series from 1480 to 1980 baht, very expensive in DHC product range. Thankful to DHC free sample policy, I can always test before waste on unsuitable product.

Hereby I enclosed also the ingredients of Olive Leaf Extract and Olive Leaf Cream to complete the Olive Leaf Series.

Olive Leaf Extract Ingredients:

Olea Europaea (olive) Leaf Extract, Butylene Glycol, Pentylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol

Olive Leaf Cream Ingredients:

Water, Ethyl Oleate, Butylene Glycol, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Sodium PCA, Stearic Acid, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Lanolin, Squalane, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Royal Jelly Extract, Glyceryl Stearate, Sucrose Stearate, Batyl Alcohol, Placental Protein, Behenyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopherol, Potassium Hydroxide, Serine, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, Retinyl Palmitate, Allantoin, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Tricalcium Phosphate, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Menthol, Silica, Zinc Oxide, Silver

DHC Alpha-Arbutin White Mask contains Alpha Arbutin as its potent ingredient where many specialists believe Alpha version of arbutin is more stable and works more effectively to inhibit the activity of tyrosinase, leading skin lightening more efficiently.

The Mask is fragrance-free, no coloring and close to skin pH, the 12ml content seems like fully absorbed by the sheet mask by not leaving any extra essence in the pack. The paper mask could be stretchable gently, the cutting of DHC mask didn’t fit well on my face, it was too large on me but will be just nice for those have round face.

The consistency of the essence is watery clear liquid, I leave the mask on face for 20 minutes, then just put on moisturizer without rinse off. No worries of breakout because the essence really lightweight like toner. Although I hardly get dullness over past few months, but I still notice slightly brightening and hydrating effects after the application. I gave a piece of the mask to my SO who has originally fair skin but medium tanned now, I have not noticed any instant obviously brightening effect on him.

By the way, if you are sun-tanning, please make sure your skin is already calmly soothed before any whitening treatment, else your skin most probably get sensitive inflamed and take longer time to recover the brightness.

The DHC Alpha-Arbutin White Mask costs me 550 baht per box, each box contains 5 sheets with 12ml essence per sheet.

Rating: …))) good  Good. May buy again.

Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Sodium PCA, Phenoxyethanol, Morus Alba Root Extract, Alpha-Arbutin, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Hyaluronate, 1-Methylhydantoin-2-Imide, Serine, Citric Acid, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Acetyl Tyrosine, Paeonia Suffruticosa Root Extract, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract

Pond’s Perfect Result promotes “Skin Quality” by using Perfect Result. As the recent newly-launched moisturizers from Olay, L’Oreal … are having medium price range, so the low-priced moisturizers with look good ingredients definitely caught my eyes. I had used Pond’s during my school day and I think they are worth to try if you have budget concern.

The consistency of Multi-Benefit Moisturizer are moisturizing, easy to spread, slightly thick, settle quickly, no white residue and leaving skin shine free. Frankly speaking, I like the consistency and price more than Olay Total Effects, but both of them contributes thousand blackheads.

This is fragranced chemical sunscreen/moisturizer with SPF18, enough for me to use at home. Since I always love physical sunblock for my sensitive skin, so I gave to my SO after several uses. My SO who got normal skin type said he preferred Olay Total Effect than this one.

Unfortunately Pond’s did not list out full ingredient list on the packaging. Paid 299 baht for 50ml of the Pond’s Multi-Benefit Moisturizer.
