Korea BB cream (BB stands for Blemish Balm) is one of the hottest talks of beauty amid women in recent years. The BB cream not only can cover blemish but function as post-laser skin treatment too. The trend burst forth in Asia when BB cream was hot amid Korea celebrities.

I have not tried any until I bought Hanskin Super Magic BB cream mini size 10ml from Boots pharmacy lately, costs me 680 baht. Provided whitening and wrinkle-fighting properties with SPF 30 PA++, I proceed the purchase despite the expensive price tag and no tester to test, of course I did read reviews from various sources that this BB cream suit for pale skin.

The consistency is considered thick yet creamy, but not runny on face. Not fragranced, color looks dark grayish that worried me not a good match of my skin tone at first. Fortunately, it blended easily into my skin like moisturizer, the color matched my fair skin tone by itself, the result was pretty natural like no make up on. Face was moisture, radiant and dewy.

It has sheer coverage to even skin tone but did not cover my skin problem like broken capillaries, freckles, pores effectively even skin is glowing and natural. I quite happy with the dewy look. however, the BB cream has given me darker skin tone ( slightly orangey-grayish ) when the BB cream oxides on me, perhaps due to my skin dullness, that’s why I don’t tend to re-purchase because I don’t know when my face will looks horrible without look at mirror constantly.

I love it is moisturizing for my dry spots, lasting powder was not impressed, might need powder to control excess shine, if you have oily skin, I afraid it’ll imparts the excess oily look. I was wondering if all brands of BB cream has the same result.

my thought on drugstore

Drugstore brand or counter brand, this is hot debatable issue and really subjected to individual prefereces. The product price is involved it’s manufacturing process approaches, research and development cost, production quantity, product packaging, marketing expenditure, ingredient rareness, ingredients concentration … and many others.

Drugstore brand or counter brand, make sure there are clearly stated product details like ingredient list, instruction, manufacturer or distributor information, manufacturing date or expiry date…… .

Drugstore brand or counter brand, we do not know the percentage of ingredients in the product unless stated otherwise. For instance, beta hydroxy acid (BHA) works best in concentration of 1% to 2% and PH 3 to 4 for acne therapy. However, I guess counter brand usually has higher concentration compare to drugstore brand.

 laneige-sensitive-mild-emulsion

Laneige sensitive mild complex helps to normalize sensitive skin with Portula extract for skin soothing, Phytosan from soybean to restore damaged DNA and SC-Glucan from mushroom to boost skin immunity. Laneige sensitive mild is also mineral oil free, fragrance free and alcohol free.

The emulsion is non-sticky, light weighted that penetrates rapidly into skin. Since it has no UV protection so I use it  for night care. It is ideal for my oily T-zone but need another layer of cream on dry zone. I even use this as serum whenever my skin is extremely dry.

According to Laneige website, Laneige emulsion should be used before Laneige essence and after Laneige skin refiner, most probably the consistency of Laneige emulsion is somewhere in between the essence and skin refiner. Laneige skin refiner possibly just a different name used by Laneige for lotion/toner, the function and consistency are same with lotion/toner actually.

Overall Sensitive Mild Emulsion didn’t bring me any skin irritation and it hydrated my skin gently. However, this water-based emulsion didn’t control shine as my T-zone starts to be shinny after an hour. So those with oily skin do take note that water-based moisturizer might not necessary has good oil-controlling power, in fact, moisturizers has both water-based and oil-based ingredients will do the best job in balancing which control excess sebum effectively.

Meanwhile, it packed in a sleek designed glass bottle, the bottle pump was a bit hard to press and the lotion fluid out quite messy. Just make sure the  head spout is close towards your palm before press the pump.

I would only say the emulsion is nice and comfortable when the skin is sensitive but I didn’t expect it heals my irritation totally. Sensitive Mild Emulsion 100 ml, price at 1009 baht after 5% member discount. It lasts me about 3 to 4 months with two applications a day.

KATE is a drugstore line of Kanebo for chic, stylish makeup with no rules. This always dressed in black sister line has above average quality yet only half o the price of Kanebo counter line, Coffret D’or.

I have not use powder foundation since many years ago, so I decided try a refill size at first to see if it suits for my skin. There are two different packagings of the Kate powder foundation that I found in the store, black packaging and white packaging. Color choices of black packaging seems to be darker and may not suitable for my fair Asia skin, in addition, there is only one color shade to choose from white packaging (brightening), the shade is light enough to match my skin tone.

The powder is surprisingly finely milled as a drugstore brand. Very smooth creamy texture contains fine pearly micro-particles to give radiant face, pigmentation is buildable from sheer to medium. Pore concealing power and lasting power is not up to mark though the finish is subtle luminous. The shade is suitable for beige or yellow skin tone.

In dry weather, when my skin is dehydration-prone, apply KATE powder foundation with dry/wet sponge or powder brush always a challenge to me. I was frustrated that I really don’t know how to apply without patchiness. I did try many ways with different base makeup yet I always end up with imperfect finish. The picture above doesn’t has high resolution to show the patchiness even it’s not obvious but you might have noticed the patchiness under my eye (Top right corner) because my eye cream was too emollient. Recently I have learnt the circular motion application tip to properly blend the creamy texture into skin, and the finish look absolutely pretty! Whereas in humid weather, my skin was behaving well and rarely proned to dehydration, thus I have no problem to create a perfect smooth finish with this powder foundation. It is however, the lasting power is pretty average that I need 1~2 touch-up a day.

KATE powder foundation oxides on me sometimes, turns to darker peachy tone that really looks weird. I guess that partly caused by the skin dullness. Anyhow I need a powder foundation that can secure me a fresh makeup along the day. Overall this is lovely powder foundation, in fact, this is my current most favorite drugstore powder foundation.

The ingredients list does not list on the packaging but I got it from a website, I have no idea if this is the correct list of the foundation even though they have same product name. Nevertheless, Kanebo powder foundations always have similarity of ingredients up to certain degree.

   lm-silk-creme

According to Laura Mercier, Silk creme foundation is a beautiful, light-diffusing formula offering advanced light-reflection properties which cause fine lines and wrinkles to optically vanish. An innovative foundation that delivers flawless, buildable coverage in a long wearing rich hydrating base.

It provides medium to full coverage, contains shinny micro-particles, pores concealing power is satisfactory. It would not cover my freckles and broken capillaries totally but slightly lighten them. Since this is yellow-based, so it covers my redness quite well. The trick of this heavy foundation is to only use tiny amount for whole face. The foundation could be either drying or moisturizing depends on my pre-makeup base.

compares to a rice

  Compare to a rice size

If I use the excellent oil-controlling milky sunblock, which gives whitish matted-face, the foundation’s finish will be semi-matted with subtle luminosity without loose powder setting. If I use a moisturizing sunblock without oil-controlling properties, the finish will be porcelain luminous and dewy, may need loose powder to set the makeup then.

Nevertheless, I prefer using a good oil-controlling sunblock before the foundation that give me all day fresh makeup without need to touch up, even I might risk a heavy finish. While using moisturizing sunblock before the foundation, I have to touch up several times a day to keep away the shinny face.

Sometimes I also mixed the foundation with cream moisturizer at 1:1 ratio for sheer coverage, it did not cover my skin imperfection at all because the mixture pretty much alike tinted moisturizer that normally has no coverage, thus touch up may be necessary if my skin starts to produce more sebum in the mid day.

What I love most about this foundation is it seldom oxides on me, even so, it only turns a litte bit yellowish which look natural on my Asian skin. What a wonderful thing that you don’t have to worry about your base makeup whenever, wherever.

Unfortunately, the silk creme foundation gives me bump if I use it continuously for week, probably due to the ingredient. So I only use it occasionally since I did not wear foundation daily, else, this is near to be my ideal foundation.

35ml retails at 1700 baht, 1530 baht after 10% discount during promotion in department store. Reasonable priced for this quality product.

boots-facial-wash

Boots pharmacy is originated from U.K. and it was expanding aggressively in Thailand. Shopping at Boots is fun, they has so many house brands and also other brands like Olay, L’Oreal, Avene, Eucerin, DHC (limited range)…. etc etc. It has similar market positioning like Watson pharmacy in Thailand. In U.K, Boots also sell high end brands like Lancome, Chanel ……etc.

I have tried many house brands of Boots including the most popular line No.7, which I satisfied most amidst those house brands. Every month Boots has very tempting promotion and usually I wait for the best offer to buy stuff, really save a lot.

Most of the house brands has strong fragrance which I was not fond of, but Boots fragrance free facial wash is exceptional and really a good deal.

Boots fragrance free facial wash actually reminds me of Simple moisturizing foaming wash, Simple is also from U.K. They both have same gel-liquid consistency, suitable for sensitive skin, no taut skin after the cleansing except skin is dehydrated. Simple does not sell in Thailand by the way. Boots facial wash also came with cucumber fragranced, both have same consistency and price.

Although the Boots facial wash contains SLS ( Sodium Laureth Sulfate, harsh cleansing agent ), since most products like Eucerin, Cetaphil, Avene for sensitive skin also contain SLS in their cleanser, I think it is safe to use but might not have skin care benefit in long term, therefore it’s still the best if I could avoid SLS.

I used the facial wash day and night daily, and it finished quite fast after a month. Normal retail price is 85 baht for 100ml, but I always get it at much lower retail price during promotion.

In my opinion, this definitely better than those expensive cleanser that give me taut feeling. By the way, I believe the below mentioned ingredients list in the packaging wasn’t the complete one.

palgantong-theatrical-powder

I get to know Palgantong loose powder in a Japan-Taiwan magazine that the loose powder is high raved amid young women. I bought it from local Watson pharmacy, 380 baht for 10g. A little bit expensive if compare to the selling price of other Asia countries. Palgantong loose powder only comes with two shades in Thailand, light beige and original beige which both shades are toward pinkish.

This loose powder is not drying which my skin felt comfortable with it on. In other words, this might not has super staying power. The powder is surprisingly fine at the low price, and gives soft matted finish. It also has sheer pinkish coverage and this was bothering me as I already prone to redness. Luckily this is good pair with Laura Mercier mineral setting powder to become a tailor-made loose powder for me.

Use this hydrating powder alone after skin care is still a bit drying, after all this is talc based. Loose powder aims to control oiliness, so I use it after foundation as setting powder or mid day touch up.

No breakout from the powder and I really think this is one of the best value products. Limited color choice is the only drawback.
